God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.

他们的罪孽是出于麻木的心（按照《马索拉文本》，“他们的罪孽是出于麻木的心”应作“他们的眼睛因体胖而凸出”；现参照《七十士译本》翻译），他们心里的恶念泛滥。

他们的家宅平安无惧，神的刑杖也不加在他们身上。他们的公牛交配而不落种，他们的母牛下犊而不掉胎，他们叫小孩子出去多如羊群，他们的年轻人四处跳跃；他们跟着琴鼓高歌，又因着箫的声音欢乐。他们幸福度过他们的日子，一剎那间下阴间，毫无病痛。然而他们对神说：‘离开我们吧，我们不愿意晓得你的道路。全能者是谁，竟要我们服事他呢？我们若向他恳求，有什么益处呢？’

然后，我要对我的灵魂说：灵魂啊，你拥有许多好东西，足够多年享用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快乐吧！’神却对他说：‘无知的人哪，今天晚上，你的灵魂必被取去，你所预备的要归给谁呢？’

有人孤单无依，没有儿子，没有兄弟，仍劳碌不休，眼目也不以自己的财富为足。他问：“我劳劳碌碌，刻薄自己不去享受，是为谁呢？”这也是虚空，是劳苦的担子。

神对所罗门说：“你既然有这个心意：不求富足、财产、尊荣，也不求你敌人的性命，又不求长寿，只为自己求智慧和知识，好治理我的子民，就是我立你作王统治的人民，

你土地的出产和你劳碌得来的一切，都必被你不认识的民族吃尽；你必常常受压迫和压制；

他怎样来，也要怎样去，这也是令人痛心的憾事；他为风劳碌，有什么益处呢？

我们的产业转归外人，我们的房屋归给异族。

我看见各样的劳碌和各样精巧的工作，都是出于人与人彼此的竞争。这也是虚空，也是捕风。

王啊！至高的神曾把国位、权势、光荣和威严赐给你先祖尼布甲尼撒。

住在你中间的寄居者必渐渐高升，比你高而又高；你必渐渐下降，低而又低。

你们到了那里的时候，你们必遇见安然居住的人民；那地的两边宽阔，神已经把那地交在你们手里；那地百物俱全，一无所缺。”

大卫年纪老迈，寿数满足，享尽富足和尊荣才去世；他的儿子所罗门接续他作王。

外族人吞吃了他的力量，他却不知道；他头上满是白发，他也不晓得。

我大事发展：为自己建造房屋，栽种葡萄园，修造园囿和庭园，在园中栽种各类果树，挖造水池，用来浇灌培植树木的林园。我买了仆婢，也有生在家中的奴仆；又拥有大群牛羊，胜过任何比我先在耶路撒冷的人所拥有的。我又为自己积蓄金银，以及列王和各省的财宝。我又为自己招募男女歌手，收纳许多妃嫔，是世人所以为乐的。于是我就日渐昌大，超过任何比我先在耶路撒冷的人；我的智慧仍然与我同在。我眼中所求的，我都不禁止；我心所喜欢的，我都没抑制。我的心因我的一切劳碌而快乐，这就是我从一切劳碌中所得的分。

因为耶和华你的神快要领你进入那美地；那地有河流，有泉，有源，水从谷中和山上流出来；那地有小麦、大麦、葡萄树、无花果树、石榴树；那地有橄榄树、油和蜜；你在那地必不缺乏食物，在那里你必一无所缺；那地的石头就是铁；从那里的山上，你可以挖出铜来。你吃饱了，就要称颂耶和华你的神，因为他把那美地赐了给你。

世人来来往往只是幻影，他们忙乱也是虚空；积聚财物，却不知道谁要来收取。

耶和华使所罗门在以色列众人面前非常尊大，又赐给他君王的威严，胜过在他以前所有的以色列王。
