那时，恐惧像风暴那样临到，灾难像旋风那样来临，患难和困苦临到你们身上。那时，他们将呼求我，我却不回应；他们将切切寻找我，却找不到。正是因为他们恨恶知识，没有选择敬畏耶和华，

我吃灰烬如同吃饭，我所喝的与眼泪混杂。

为此，你们中间有很多人是软弱的、患病的，甚至有许多人睡着了。但如果我们省察自己，就不会受惩罚；即使我们受惩罚，也是在受主的管教，免得我们和这世界一同被定罪。

是的，我们因你的怒气而灭亡，因你的怒火而惶恐。你把我们的罪孽摆在你面前，把我们隐藏的事摆在你的容光之中。我们一生的日子都在你的盛怒中消逝，我们度尽的岁月如同一声叹息。我们一生的日子，是七十岁，如果强壮，可到八十岁；但其中可夸耀的，不过是劳苦愁烦，转瞬即逝，我们就如飞而去。谁明白你怒气的威力呢？谁按着你该受的敬畏，明白你的盛怒呢？
