有一個人孤單無伴，連兒子和兄弟也沒有；但他各樣的勞苦卻沒有窮盡，他的眼目也不因財富而滿足；他問：「我如此勞苦，也不讓自己過好日子，到底是為了誰呢？」這也是虛空，是極重的擔子！

有人塊然獨處、無兄弟子女、不與友朋交接、然亦勞苦不已、雖得貨財、不以為足、不敢自用、不知遺誰、此屬於虛、更貽後患。

有人獨處無子、無兄弟、然亦勞碌不已、雖得多財、目中不以為足、亦不自問曰、我不自享所得、我勞碌究為誰耶、此亦屬於虛、徒勞無益、

There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth.“ For whom am I toiling,” he asked,“ and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?” This too is meaningless— a miserable business!

A man lived all by himself. He didn’t have any sons or brothers. His hard work never ended. But he wasn’t happy with what he had.“ Who am I working so hard for?” he asked.“ Why don’t I get the things I enjoy?” That doesn’t have any meaning either. In fact, it’s a very bad deal!

one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks,“ For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.

This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself,“ Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.

陰間地府，從不飽足；人的眼目，也不飽足。

原來世界上一切肉體的欲望、眼目的欲望、今生的驕傲，都不是出於父，而是出於世界的。

萬事令人厭倦，人無法說盡；眼看，看不飽；耳聽，聽不足。

我用心求問，以智慧探察在天下所做的一切，這些都是神加給世人極重的擔子，讓他們在其中操勞。

「可是神對他說：『你這愚妄的人哪！今夜，他們就要召回你的靈魂了。那麼，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

兩個人總比一個人好，因為二人共同勞苦有美好的賞報。如果一個跌倒，另一個還可以扶起他的同伴；但如果孤身一人，跌倒後沒有同伴把他扶起，這人就有禍了！再者，如果二人同睡，就都暖和；一人獨睡，怎能暖和呢？孤身一人會被人制伏，但兩個人就能在對手面前站立得住，三股合成的繩子不容易拉斷。

禍哉！你們這樣的人！你們使房屋連著房屋，田地接著田地，以致沒有多餘的空間，好獨自居住在那地當中。

人們往來行走，只是幻像；他們喧鬧，也是虛空；他們積聚，卻不知道誰會收取。

貪愛銀子的不會因銀子滿足，貪愛財富的也不會因利益滿足。這也是虛空！

耶和華神又說：「那人孤身不好，我要為他造一個合適的幫助者。」

你們為什麼把錢花在非食物的東西上呢？為什麼把自己的辛苦所得花在不能使人飽足的東西上呢？你們要留心聽我的話，要吃美物，讓自己的心靈得享肥甘！

亞伯蘭說：「主耶和華啊，你要賜給我什麼呢？我一直沒有孩子，我家業的繼承人是大馬士革人以利以謝。」亞伯蘭又說：「看哪，既然你沒有賜給我後裔，那生在我家裡的就是我的繼承人了。」

其實他一生的日子都是痛苦，他的事務都是煩惱，他的心甚至在夜間也不得安息。這也是虛空！

「所有勞苦和背負重擔的人哪，到我這裡來吧！我將使你們得到安息。

他們不反思，也沒有知識和聰慧來說：「我用一半的木頭燒火，又在火炭上烘餅，烤肉吃。我怎麼能用剩下的木頭製造可憎之物呢？我怎麼能向一塊木頭膜拜呢？」他們追求的只是灰燼；他們的心受了迷惑，使他們偏離正道；他們不能救自己，也不會說：「我右手中的，難道不是虛謊之物嗎？」

不要讓歸附於耶和華的外邦人說：「耶和華必定會把我從他的子民中分離出去。」也不要讓被閹割的人說：「看哪，我是一棵枯樹！」因為耶和華如此說：「對於那些謹守我的安息日、選擇我所喜悅的事、堅守我約的被閹割之人，我必在我的殿中牆內，賜給他們紀念柱和名號，比有兒女更好；我必賜給他們永不剪除的名號。
