那人將來是智是愚，有誰曉得呢？可是他竟要掌管一切我勞碌得來的，就是我在日光之下用智慧得來的。這又是虛空。

那人是智慧是愚昧，谁能知道？他竟要管理我劳碌所得的，就是我在日光之下用智慧所得的。这也是虚空。

那人會有智慧或是愚昧，誰能知道呢？他竟要掌管我勞碌所得的一切，就是我在日光之下用智慧所勞碌得來的：這也是虛空。

那人是智慧是愚笨，誰知道呢？他卻要掌管我勞苦所得的一切，就是我在日光之下用智慧得來的。這也是虛空！

彼為智為愚、孰克知之、我於日下以智勞力操作者、彼必主之、斯亦虛空、

子孫智愚、難以逆料、惟我竭其心思、勞苦畢生、彼得而主之、豈不盡屬於虛哉。

其人或智或愚、尚未可知、我在日下、用智慧勞碌所得者、竟為彼所轄、此亦屬於虛、

And who knows whether that person will be wise or foolish? Yet they will have control over all the fruit of my toil into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless.

And who knows whether that person will be wise or foolish? Either way, they’ll take over everything on earth I’ve worked so hard for. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity.

And who can tell whether my successors will be wise or foolish? Yet they will control everything I have gained by my skill and hard work under the sun. How meaningless!

And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will take over all my work that I labored at skillfully under the sun. This too is futile.

And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the fruit of my labor for which I have labored by acting wisely under the sun. This too is futility.

And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will rule over all my labor in which I toiled and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

And who knoweth whether he will be a wise man or a fool? yet will he have rule over all my labor wherein I have labored, and wherein I have showed myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will take over all my work that I labored at skillfully under the sun. This too is futile.

And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise[ man] or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This[ is] also vanity.

至於從天上來的智慧，首先是純潔的，其次是和平的，溫柔的，謙遜的，滿有恩慈和善果，沒有偏袒，沒有虛偽。

因此我看人最好是在自己所作的事上自得其樂，因為這也是他的分；誰能使他看見他自己死後的事呢？

卻照著年輕人給他所出的主意，對他們說：“我父親加重你們所負的重擔，我要使你們負更重的重擔；我父親用鞭子責打你們，我要用蠍子鞭責打你們。”王不肯聽從民眾的請求，因為這個轉變是出於耶和華，為要應驗他藉示羅人亞希雅對尼八的兒子耶羅波安所說的話。以色列眾人見王不肯聽從他們的請求，就回答王說：“我們在大衛裡面有甚麼分呢？我們在耶西的兒子裡面也沒有產業；以色列人哪，回你們自己的家去吧！大衛啊，照顧你自己的家吧！”於是以色列人都回自己的家去了。不過住在猶大各城的以色列人，羅波安仍然作他們的王。羅波安王差派掌管作苦工之人的亞多蘭往以色列人那裡去，以色列眾人卻用石頭打死他。羅波安王急忙上車逃回耶路撒冷去了。這樣，以色列人背叛了大衛家，直到今日。以色列眾人聽說耶羅波安回來了，就派人去請他到會眾面前，立他作以色列的王；除了猶大支派以外，沒有跟隨大衛家的。

在日光之下，我又看見一樣智慧，覺得很有意義：

各樣美好的賞賜，各樣完備的恩賜，都是從上面、從眾光之父降下來的，他本身並沒有改變，也沒有轉動的影子。

羅波安王第五年，埃及王示撒上來攻打耶路撒冷。他奪去了耶和華的寶物和王宮的寶物，並且把所有的東西都奪去了；又把所羅門所做的一切金盾牌都奪了去。羅波安王做了銅盾牌代替那些金盾牌；交給看守宮門的衛兵隊長看管。王每次進耶和華殿的時候，衛兵就拿著這些盾牌，隨後又把盾牌送回護衛室裡。

於是埃及王示撒上來攻打耶路撒冷，奪取了耶和華殿和王宮裡的寶物，把它們全部帶走，又奪去了所羅門所做的金盾牌。羅波安王做了一些銅盾牌代替那些金盾牌，交給那些看守宮門的守衛長看管。

羅波安王很嚴厲地回答他們。羅波安王不接受老人的意見，卻照著年輕人的主意對他們說：“我父親使你們負重軛，我必使你們負更重的軛；我父親用鞭子責打你們，我卻要用蠍子鞭責打你們。”王不聽從人民的要求，這事原是出於神，為要實現耶和華藉著示羅人亞希雅對尼八的兒子耶羅波安所說的話。以色列人見王不聽他們的要求，就對王說：“我們和大衛有甚麼關係呢？我們和耶西的兒子並不相干。以色列人哪，各回各家去吧，大衛啊，現在只顧你自己的家吧。”於是全體以色列人都回自己的家去了。

主人就誇獎這不義的管家作事機警；因為在應付自己的世事上，今世之子比光明之子更精明。
