So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

我遂惡生、因於日下經營、乃為煩惱、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

斯世所為、殷憂慼慼、莫非捕風捉影、故我不樂其生。

我厭惡生命、因我見日下所作之事、皆不善、皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、

So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

So I hated life. That’s because the work done on this earth made me sad. None of it has any meaning. It’s like chasing the wind.

So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless— like chasing the wind.

Therefore, I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me. For everything is futile and a pursuit of the wind.

So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was unhappy to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind.

When the sun rose, God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on the head of Jonah so that he was faint. And he asked that he might die and said,“ It is better for me to die than to live.”

so that I would choose strangling and death rather than my bones.I loathe my life; I would not live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are a breath.

I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.

Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would conceal me until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

And I thought the dead who are already dead more fortunate than the living who are still alive.

Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the appetite: this also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Why do you make me see iniquity, and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise.

What has a man from all the toil and striving of heart with which he toils beneath the sun?

I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith,

If you will treat me like this, kill me at once, if I find favor in your sight, that I may not see my wretchedness.”

Cursed be the day on which I was born! The day when my mother bore me, let it not be blessed!Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father,“ A son is born to you,” making him very glad.Let that man be like the cities that the Lord overthrew without pity; let him hear a cry in the morning and an alarm at noon,because he did not kill me in the womb; so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb forever great.Why did I come out from the womb to see toil and sorrow, and spend my days in shame?

The Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness in the heat of my spirit, the hand of the Lord being strong upon me.

Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness, and in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness.

Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man!

“ Why is light given to him who is in misery, and life to the bitter in soul,who long for death, but it comes not, and dig for it more than for hidden treasures,who rejoice exceedingly and are glad when they find the grave?

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying,“ It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
