He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

He gave you manna to eat in the desert. Your people had never even known anything about manna before. The Lord took your pride away. He tested you. He did it so that things would go well with you in the end.

以色列人看見了，不知道是甚麼，就彼此說：「這是甚麼？」摩西對他們說：「這是耶和華給你們吃的食物。

他磨煉你，任你飢餓，將你和你列祖所不認識的嗎哪賜給你吃，使你知道，人活着，不是單靠食物，乃是靠耶和華口裏所出的一切話。

「耶和華－以色列的神如此說：『被擄去的猶大人，就是我所打發離開這地到迦勒底人之地去的，我必看顧他們如這好的無花果，使他們得福樂。我要眷顧他們，使他們得福樂，領他們歸回這地。我也要建立他們，必不拆毀；栽植他們，必不拔出。

我們這短暫而輕微的苦楚要為我們成就極重、無比、永遠的榮耀。

肉身之父都是短時間隨己意管教我們，惟有靈性之父管教我們是要我們得益處，使我們在他的聖潔上有份。凡管教的事，當時不覺得快樂，反覺得痛苦；後來卻為那經過鍛鍊的人結出平安的果子，就是義的果子。

忍受試煉的人有福了，因為他經過考驗以後必得生命的冠冕，這是主應許給愛他之人的。

人仰望耶和華，安靜等候他的救恩，這是好的。人在年輕時負軛，這是好的。他當安靜獨坐，因為這是耶和華加在他身上的。讓他臉伏於地吧！或者還會有指望。讓人打他耳光，使他飽受凌辱吧！主必不永遠撇棄，他雖使人憂愁，還要照他豐盛的慈愛施憐憫；他並不存心要人受苦，令世人憂愁。

我們知道，萬事都互相效力，叫愛神的人得益處，就是按他旨意被召的人。

使你們的信心既被考驗，就比那被火試煉仍然能壞的金子更顯寶貴，可以在耶穌基督顯現的時候得着稱讚、榮耀、尊貴。
