Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,

But suppose you don’t obey his commands. And suppose you have plenty to eat. You build fine houses and live in them.

lest, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them,

For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in,

When you eat and are full, and build beautiful houses to live in,

I increased my possessions: I built houses for myself; I planted vineyards for myself.

Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot, people were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building;

They say,‘ The time is not near to build houses; the city is a cooking pot and we are the meat in it.’

“ Is it right for you to live in richly paneled houses while my temple is in ruins?

For after I have brought them to the land I promised to their ancestors– one flowing with milk and honey– and they eat their fill and become fat, then they will turn to other gods and worship them; they will reject me and break my covenant.

He says,“ I will build myself a large palace with spacious upper rooms.” He cuts windows in its walls, panels it with cedar, and paints its rooms red.Does it make you any more of a king that you outstrip everyone else in building with cedar? Just think about your father. He was content that he had food and drink. He did what was just and right. So things went well with him.

Therefore, because you make the poor pay taxes on their crops and exact a grain tax from them, you will not live in the houses you built with chiseled stone, nor will you drink the wine from the fine vineyards you planted.
