It was not with our ancestors that the Lord made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today.

“今日你们全都要站在耶和华—你们的神面前，就是各领袖、族长、长老、官长、以色列所有的男子、你们的妻子儿女、你营中寄居的，从为你砍柴到为你挑水的人，为要使你进入耶和华—你神的约，就是耶和华—你神今日向你起誓所立的；这样，他今日要立你作他的子民，他作你的神，是照他向你所应许的，又照他向你列祖亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各所起的誓。我不单单与你们立这约，起这誓，就是今日与我们一同站在耶和华—我们神面前的，而且也包括今日不在我们这里的人。

到明年所定的时候，撒拉必为你生以撒，我要与他坚立我的约。”

我实在告诉你们，从前有许多先知和义人要看你们所看的，却没有看见；要听你们所听的，却没有听见。”

他记念他的约，直到永远；记念他吩咐的话，直到千代，就是与亚伯拉罕所立的约，向以撒所起的誓。他将这约向雅各定为律例，向以色列定为永远的约，

所以神指责他们说：“主说，看哪，日子将到，我要与以色列家和犹大家另立新的约；不像我拉着他们祖宗的手领他们出埃及地的时候，与他们所立的约；因为他们不恒心守我的约，所以我也不理他们；这是主说的。

我是这么说，神预先所立的约不能被四百三十年以后的律法废掉，使应许失效。因为承受产业若是出于律法，就不再是出于应许；但神是凭着应许把产业赐给亚伯拉罕。这样说来，为什么要有律法呢？律法是为过犯的缘故而加上去的，等候那蒙应许的子孙来到才结束，是藉着天使经中保之手而设立的。但中保本不是为单方设立的；神却是一位。这样，律法是与神的应许对立吗？绝对不是！如果律法的颁布能使人得生命，义就诚然出于律法了。

他们要作我的子民，我要作他们的神。我要使他们彼此同心同道，好叫他们永远敬畏我，使他们和他们后世的子孙得享福乐。我要跟他们立永远的约，要施恩给他们，绝不转离；又要把敬畏我的心放在他们心里，不离弃我。
