耶和華的話臨到我，說：「人子啊，把你的臉正對着耶路撒冷，對着聖所傳講，向以色列地說預言。你要向以色列地說，耶和華如此說：看哪，我與你為敵，拔刀出鞘，把義人和惡人從你中間剪除。因為我要剪除你當中的義人和惡人，所以我的刀要出鞘，從南到北攻擊所有的血肉之軀；凡血肉之軀都知道我－耶和華已拔刀出鞘，刀必不再入鞘。你，人子啊，要嘆息，在他們眼前斷了腰，愁苦地嘆息。若有人對你說：『你為甚麼嘆息呢？』你就說：『因為有風聲傳來，人心惶惶，雙手發軟，精神衰敗，膝弱如水。看哪，它臨近了，一定會發生。』這是主耶和華說的。」耶和華的話臨到我，說：「人子啊，你要預言說，耶和華如此吩咐，你要說：有刀，刀已磨快，又擦亮了；磨快為要大大殺戮，擦亮為要像閃電。我們豈能快樂呢？它藐視我兒的權杖和一切的木頭。它已經交給人擦亮，可以掌握使用；這刀已經磨快擦亮，好交在行殺戮的人手中。人子啊，你要呼喊哀號，因為這刀將臨到我的百姓，臨到以色列所有的領袖身上。他們和我的百姓都要交在刀下，所以你要捶胸。因為這是一個考驗，若它藐視權杖，也不算一回事，又怎麼樣呢？這是主耶和華說的。」「人子啊，你要拍掌預言，使這刀三番兩次臨到；這是致人死傷的刀，就是包圍人，使人大受死傷的刀。我設立這恐嚇的刀，攻擊他們一切的城門，為要使他們的心驚慌害怕，許多人因而跌倒。唉！它造得像閃電，磨得尖利，要行殺戮。刀啊，要行動一致，向右邊，或指向左邊；面向哪方，就向哪方。我也要拍掌，使我的憤怒平息。這是我－耶和華說的。」耶和華的話臨到我，說：「人子啊，你要畫定兩條路線，使巴比倫王的刀過來，這兩條路必從同一地分出來；要在通往城裏的路口畫手作指標。你要劃定一條路，使刀來到亞捫人的拉巴，來到猶大，在堅固城耶路撒冷。因為巴比倫王站在岔路上，在兩條路口占卜。他搖籤求問神像，察看肝臟；右手是耶路撒冷的占卜，以便安設撞城槌，張口喊殺，揚聲呼叫，建土堆，築堡壘，以撞城槌攻打城門。在那些曾鄭重起誓的猶大人眼中，這是虛假的占卜；但巴比倫王要使他們想起自己的罪孽，以便俘擄他們。」
