In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror will reign. The young men and young women will perish, the infants and those with gray hair.

In the streets their children will be killed by swords. Their homes will be filled with terror. The young men and women will die. The babies and old people will die.

Outdoors the sword shall bereave, and indoors terror, for young man and woman alike, the nursing child with the man of gray hairs.

Outside, the sword will bring death, and inside, terror will strike both young men and young women, both infants and the aged.

Outside, the sword will take their children, and inside, there will be terror; the young man and the young woman will be killed, the infant and the gray-haired man.

外有刀劍，內有瘟疫、饑荒。在田野的，必因刀劍而死；在城中的，必遭饑荒、瘟疫吞滅。

耶和華啊，求你觀看，因為我在急難中；我的心腸煩亂，我心在我裏面翻轉，因我大大背逆。在外，刀劍使人喪亡；在家，猶如死亡。

所以，耶和華使迦勒底人的王來攻擊他們，在他們聖殿裏用刀殺了他們的壯丁，不憐憫他們的少男少女、老人長者。耶和華把所有的人都交在他手裏。

你們說：「不然，我們要騎馬奔走」，所以你們必然奔走。你們又說：「我們要騎快馬」，所以追趕你們的，也必飛快。

因為死亡從窗戶進來，進入我們的宮殿，從外邊剪除孩童，從街上剪除少年。

我們從前到了馬其頓的時候，身體沒有絲毫安寧，反而到處遭患難，外有紛爭，內有懼怕。

至於你們倖存的人，我要使他們在敵人之地心中驚慌，甚至風吹落葉的聲音也把他們嚇跑。他們要逃避，像人逃避刀劍，雖無人追趕，卻要跌倒。雖然無人追趕，他們卻要彼此絆倒，像逃避刀劍一樣。你們在仇敵面前必站立不住。

吃奶孩子的舌頭因乾渴貼住上膛，孩童求餅，卻無人擘給他們。

夜間每逢時辰開始，要起來呼喊，在主面前傾心吐意如水。你的孩童在街頭上挨餓昏厥，你要為他們的性命向主舉手。耶和華啊，求你觀看，留意你向誰這樣行。婦人豈可吃自己所生、所撫育的嬰孩嗎？祭司和先知豈可在主的聖所中被殺嗎？年輕人和老年人躺臥在街上，我的少女和壯丁都倒在刀下。你在發怒的日子殺了他們，你殺戮，並不顧惜。你從四圍招聚使我驚嚇的人，像在節慶的日子一樣。耶和華發怒的日子，無人逃脫，無人生還。我所撫育養大的，仇敵都殺盡了。
