但耶和華－你們的神在你們各支派中選擇何處作為立他名的居所，你們就要到那裏求問，

「你所有的男丁要在除酵節、七七節、住棚節，一年三次，在耶和華－你神所選擇的地方朝見他，不可空手朝見耶和華。各人要按自己手中的能力，照耶和華－你神所賜你的福，奉獻禮物。」

因為歷代以來，摩西的書在各城都有人宣講，每逢安息日，也在會堂裏誦讀。」

次日，眾百姓的族長、祭司和利未人都聚集到以斯拉文士那裏，要明白律法書上的話。

那時，眾百姓如同一人聚集在水門前的廣場，請以斯拉文士將耶和華吩咐以色列的摩西的律法書帶來。七月初一，以斯拉祭司將律法書帶到聽了能明白的男女會眾面前。他在水門前的廣場，從清早到中午，在男女和能明白的人面前讀這律法書，眾百姓都側耳而聽。以斯拉文士站在為這事特製的木臺上。站在他旁邊的有瑪他提雅、示瑪、亞奈雅、烏利亞和希勒家；站在他右邊的有瑪西雅；站在他左邊的有毗大雅、米沙利、瑪基雅、哈順、哈拔大拿、撒迦利亞和米書蘭。以斯拉站在上面，在眾百姓眼前展開這書。他一展開，眾百姓都站起來。以斯拉稱頌耶和華至大的神，眾百姓都舉手應聲說：「阿們！阿們！」他們低頭，俯伏在地，敬拜耶和華。耶書亞、巴尼、示利比、雅憫、亞谷、沙比太、荷第雅、瑪西雅、基利他、亞撒利雅、約撒拔、哈難、毗萊雅和利未人使百姓明白律法；百姓都站在自己的地方。他們清清楚楚地念神的律法書，講明意思，使百姓明白所念的。

在讀完了律法和先知的書，會堂主管們叫人過去，對他們說：「二位弟兄，你們若有甚麼勸勉眾人的話，請說。」

我要從你面前趕走列國，擴張你的疆界。你一年三次上去朝見耶和華－你神的時候，必沒有人貪圖你的地。

他們行走，力上加力，各人到錫安朝見神。

你要守收割節，收田間所種、勞碌所得初熟之物。你年底收藏田間勞碌所得時，要守收藏節。所有的男丁都要一年三次朝見主耶和華。

那日的四分之一，他們站在自己的地方念耶和華－他們神的律法書，又在那日的四分之一認罪，敬拜耶和華－他們的神。

耶穌來到拿撒勒，就是他長大的地方。在安息日，照他素常的規矩進了會堂，站起來要念聖經。有人把以賽亞先知的書交給他，他就打開，找到一處寫着：

從第一天直到末一天，以斯拉天天朗讀神的律法書。他們守節七日，第八日照例有嚴肅會。
