以色列人當聽、爾今日將渡約但、欲往得國、居民較爾強大、城垣廣大鞏固、崇高接天、

謂之曰、當下約但、至主爾天主之匱前、各取一石、循以色列十二支派之數、負之於肩、此石可於爾中為證、日後倘爾子孫問爾曰、此石何意、則曰、昔主之約匱過約但、河水在約匱前絕流、此石在以色列人中、永為證誌以色列人遵約書亞所命而行、於約但河中取石十二、循以色列支派之數、如主命約書亞者、負石至宿處、置之於彼、約書亞又以石十二、立於約但河中、舁約匱祭司足立之所、其石在彼、至今猶存、舁匱之祭司、立於約但河中、待主命約書亞諭民之事已畢、皆遵摩西諭約書亞之命、於是民速過河、眾民過河已畢、主之匱與祭司仍行於民前、流便人、迦得人、及瑪拿西半支派人、遵摩西所諭之之命、各執兵刃、行於以色列人前、約四萬備戰之人、過於主前、至耶利哥平原以待戰、當日主使約書亞為尊於以色列眾之目前、約書亞在世時、民畏之、如昔畏摩西然、主諭約書亞曰、爾命舁法匱之祭司、自約但而上、約書亞命祭司曰、爾可自約但而上、舁主約匱之祭司、既自約但中而上、其足方至陸地、約但之水復流故處、漲溢岸外、民自約但河出、其日即正月十日、在耶利哥東之吉甲列營、約書亞以由約但河中所取之石十二、立於吉甲、謂以色列人曰、日後倘爾子孫問長上曰、此石何意、當告之曰、此乃證以色列人、昔由乾地過此約但、蓋主爾之天主、使約但之水涸於爾前、待爾皆過、如主爾之天主使紅海涸於民前、待民民原文均作我儕悉過然、使天下萬民、皆知主之力極大、又使爾曹敬畏主爾之天主、至於永遠、

我必賜以誠一之心、使懷中有更新之志、自其體內去其剛愎之心、剛愎之心原文作石心賜以柔順之心、柔順之心原文作肉心

此誡命律例法度、主爾之天主所命我教爾者、爾當遵行於爾所往得以為業之地、
