波阿斯上城門去，坐在那裏；恰巧波阿斯所說的那位贖業至親從那裏經過了；波阿斯說：『某某人哪，請轉身坐在這裏吧！』他就轉身坐下。波阿斯又從本城的長老中揀了十個人，說：『請坐在這裏』；他們就都坐下。波阿斯對那位贖業至親說：『從摩押鄉間回來的拿俄米曾經賣了我們族兄以利米勒的那份田地。我心裏說：我應當向你披露說：你可以在在座的人面前、和我族人中間的長老面前、買回它；你如果要贖，就贖它；如果不要贖，就告訴我，讓我知道；因為除了你以外、再沒有別人可以贖了；其次就是我。』那人說：『我要贖。』波阿斯說：『那麼、你從拿俄米手中買這田地的那一天，也該買娶死者的妻摩押女子路得，好讓死者的名得以在他的產業上立起來。』那位贖業至親就說：『這樣我就不能贖了，恐怕對我自己的產業有妨礙；我所應當贖的、你儘管去贖好啦；我不能贖了。』從前在以色列中要確立甚麼事，或是贖回或是交易，有以下這樣的規矩：這人脫鞋給那人：這就是以色列中放棄贖權的證據。

願他的後人被剪滅；願他的名字第二代就被塗抹。

你叱責了列國，使惡人滅亡；你塗抹了他們的名到永永遠遠。

也買娶了瑪倫的妻摩押女子路得為妻，好讓死者的名得以在他的產業上立起來，免得死者的名從他族弟兄中、從他故鄉之門下、被剪除：你們今天都作見證。』在城門那裏的眾民、以及那些長老都說：『我們作見證。願永恆主使進你家的這女子像建立以色列家的拉結、利亞二人一樣；又願你在以法他大顯才德，願你的名在伯利恆得稱揚；願你的家因永恆主藉這少婦所要賜給你的後裔成為法勒斯的家一樣；這法勒斯是他瑪給猶大生的。』

你且由着我；我要消滅他們，將他們的名從天下塗抹掉；我要使你成為比他們強比他們繁盛的國。」
