它若將和平的話答覆你，給你開門，那麼、城裏所有的人民、就都要給你做苦工、服事你。

If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you.

Suppose they accept your offer and open their gates. Then force all the people in the city to be your slaves. They will have to work for you.

And if it responds to you peaceably and it opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labor for you and shall serve you.

If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor.

If it accepts your offer of peace and opens its gates to you, all the people found in it will become forced laborers for you and serve you.

And if it agrees to make peace with you and opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall become your forced labor and serve you.

And it shall be that if they accept your offer of peace, and open to you, then all the people who are found in it shall be placed under tribute to you, and serve you.

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that are found therein shall become tributary unto thee, and shall serve thee.

If it accepts your offer of peace and opens its gates to you, all the people found in it will become forced laborers for you and serve you.

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be,[ that] all the people[ that is] found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

約書亞把他們召了來，告訴他們說：『為甚麼你們哄騙我們說：「我們離你們很遠」，其實你們卻是住在我們中間的？現在你們是被咒詛的了；你們中間必不斷有人做奴隸、給我的上帝的殿做撿柴打水的人。』

西布倫沒有把基倫的居民和拿哈拉的居民趕出；於是迦南人仍住在西布倫中間，成了作苦工的人。亞設沒有把亞柯的居民和西頓的居民趕出，也沒有把亞黑拉、亞革悉、黑巴、亞弗革、和利合的居民趕出；於是亞設人住在那地的居民迦南人中間，因為他們沒有把他們趕出。拿弗他利沒有把伯示麥的居民和伯亞納的居民趕出；於是拿弗他利就住在那地的居民迦南人中間；然而伯示麥和伯亞納的居民卻成了給以色列人作苦工的。亞摩利人把但人擠回山地上，不容他們下到山谷來。亞摩利人執意住在希烈山、亞雅倫、和沙賓，然而約瑟家的手佔了優勢，他們就成了作苦工的人。

到以色列強大了，就使迦南人作苦工，沒有把他們全都趕出。

他們的子孫於他們過往之後在此地剩下來、以色列人不能盡行毁滅歸神的——這些人、所羅門都徵派下來、充作苦工奴隸；直到今日還是如此。但是以色列人呢、所羅門卻沒有使他們當奴隸；他們乃是戰士，乃是他的臣僕、軍長、軍官、和車兵長馬兵長。

因為他們是我的僕人，是我從埃及地領出來的，他們不能被賣去做奴隸。你不可用嚴酷的手段管轄他；只要敬畏你的上帝。至於你所要有的奴隸和婢女、你們儘管從四圍外國中、去買來做奴隸做婢女。你們也可以從那些在你們這裏寄住寄居的外僑的兒女、從這樣的人中間去買，也可以從他們的家族中去買，就是那些同你們在一起、在你們境內生的；這樣的人可以做你們的產業。你們可以將他們遺留給你們的後裔子孫、取為產業；你們永遠要從這樣的人中間去取奴隸；只是你們的族弟兄、以色列人呢、你們卻不可用嚴酷的手段相管轄。

我，我和平；但我一說話，他們便要戰爭。

除了住基遍的希未人之外、沒有一個城跟以色列人講和的；這一切他們都在戰爭中奪取了來。因為使他們的心頑強、來對以色列人接戰的、是出於永恆主，要把他們盡行殺滅歸神，使他們不得恩待，反而被消滅掉，正如永恆主所吩咐摩西的。

他的公民素常恨他，便差遣使者跟他後邊去說：「我們不願意這個人做王管理我們。」

當那一天約書亞使他們給會眾和永恆主的祭壇、在他所要選擇的地方、做撿柴打水的人；到今日還是如此。

但是他們沒有把住基色的迦南人趕出；於是迦南人住在以法蓮中間、直到今日；他們成為作苦工的奴隸。
