以色列人向耶和華許願說：「要是你將這些人交在我們手中，我們必徹底摧毀他們的城邑。」耶和華答應了他們的祈求，把迦南人交在他們手中，使他們徹底毀滅了迦南人及其城邑。從此，那地方叫何珥瑪。

凡永遠獻上的，不論是人、牲畜或是田產，都不可賣掉，也不可贖回，因為這一切都屬於耶和華，是至聖的。凡永遠獻上的人不可被贖回，必須被處死。

生擒了亞瑪力王亞甲，殺盡了亞瑪力人。掃羅和他的士兵卻留下了亞甲和那些上好的牛羊、肥壯的牛犢和羊羔及一切美物，只毀滅了那些瘦弱無用的牲畜。
