There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.

因爾地不免有貧者、故我命爾曰、當開展爾手、周濟爾境內兄弟之困窮貧乏者、○

There will always be poor people in the land. So I’m commanding you to give freely to those who are poor and needy in your land. Open your hands to them.

For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you,‘ You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need.

For there will never cease to be poor people in the land; that is why I am commanding you,‘ Open your hand willingly to your poor and needy brother in your land.’

For the poor will not cease to exist in the land; therefore I am commanding you, saying,‘ You shall fully open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.’

Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

Rich and poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all.

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them allthat there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the salesand put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world.( This happened during the reign of Claudius.)The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea.This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.

In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part.But since you excel in everything— in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you— see that you also excel in this grace of giving.I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others.For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.
