Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts melt in fear. They say,‘ The people are stronger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Anakites there.’”

Where can we go? Our brothers have demoralized us with their report. They tell us,“ The people of the land are taller and more powerful than we are, and their towns are large, with walls rising high into the sky! We even saw giants there— the descendants of Anak!”’

Where can we go? Our brothers have made us lose heart, saying: The people are larger and taller than we are; the cities are large, fortified to the heavens. We also saw the descendants of the Anakim there.’

Where can we go up? Our brothers have made our hearts melt, by saying,“ The people are bigger and taller than we; the cities are large and fortified up to heaven. And besides, we saw the sons of the Anakim there.” ’

Where can we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying,“ The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to heaven; moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.”’

『以色列啊、你要聽；你今日正要過約但河、進去趕出比你大比你強的列國人、去取得那些又大又有堡壘、高得頂天的城邑。那族之民又大又高，是亞衲人，你所知道、所聽見過的、人怎樣指着他們而說：「在亞衲人面前、誰能站立得住呢？」

不過住在那地的人民很壯健、城邑也有堡壘、又極大；我們也看見亞衲人的後代在那裏。有亞瑪力人住在南地；有赫人耶布斯人亞摩利人住在山地；有迦南人住在海邊、和約但河旁。』迦勒在摩西面前叫人民安靜下來、說：『我們立刻上去、取得那地吧！我們足能勝過它。』但是那些和他一同上去的人說：『我們不能上去攻擊那民族，因為他們比我們強壯。』那些探子向以色列人發表他們所窺探之地的惡報告、說：『我們所經過而窺探的地、那是個吞喫居民之地，並且我們所看見的、其中的人民、都是身量高大的人。在那裏我們看見了巨人、亞衲人的子孫、屬於巨人一種的；據我們看、我們正如蚱蜢一樣；據他們看、我們也正如蚱蜢。

就去住在歌伯。那裏有一個人是高身漢的孩子；他的槍重有三百舍客勒，是銅的；他又束佩着新刀，說是要擊殺大衛的。但是洗魯雅的兒子亞比篩幫助了大衛，擊打那非利士人，將他殺死。當日跟隨大衛的人向大衛起誓說：『以後你不要再和我們一同出戰了，恐怕你使以色列的燈熄滅了。』此後在歌伯、以色列人同非利士人又有戰事；那時戶沙人西比該擊殺了高身漢的一個孩子撒弗。在歌伯、同非利士人又有戰事；伯利恆人睚珥的兒子伊勒哈難擊殺了迦特人歌利亞；這人的槍杆像織布者的機軸一樣。在迦特又有戰事；那裏有一個身量高大的人，他的手指和腳趾都是六支六支的，總數是二十四支；他也是高身漢所生的。這人向以色列人罵陣，大衛的哥哥示米亞的兒子約拿單擊殺了他。這四個人是在迦特的高身漢所生的；是在大衛手下或大衛僕人手下倒斃的。

以色列人照摩西所說過的、將希伯崙給了迦勒；迦勒就從那裏把亞衲人的子孫三族系趕出。

在以色列人的地、沒有一個亞衲人留下來；只在迦薩、迦特、和亞實突有剩下的。

迦勒就從那裏把亞衲人的三個兒子、示篩、亞希幔、撻買、趕出；他們是亞衲人的後代。

然而同我上去的那些族弟兄卻使人民膽戰心驚；而我則滿心滿懷跟從永恆主我的上帝。

那時以東的族系長驚惶，摩押的權貴被戰兢抓住，迦南的居民都震撼搖動：

我們一聽見，都膽戰心驚；因你們的緣故、再沒有人勇氣能立得住的了；因為是永恆主你們的上帝、他在上天下地在做上帝。

故此人的手都必發軟，人都必膽戰心驚；

他們又對約書亞說：『永恆主把那地都交在我們手中了；並且那地所有的居民因我們的緣故都膽戰心驚呢。』

對他們說：『我知道永恆主已經把這地賜給你們，並且有一種懼怕你們的恐怖情緒落到我們心裏，而且這地所有的居民因你們的緣故都膽戰心驚。

若有人問你說：「你為甚麼歎息？」你要說：「因為有風聲說有事情要臨到，人就都膽戰心驚，手都發軟，精神都衰頹，膝蓋都柔弱如水。看吧，快臨到了！那是必定發生的」』：主永恆主發神諭說。

官吏要對人民講話說：「有甚麼人懼怕膽怯的？他可以回家去，免得他使他的族弟兄喪膽、像他那樣喪膽。」

猶大人去攻擊住希伯崙的迦南人，擊殺了示篩、亞希幔、撻買；希伯崙從前名叫基列亞巴。
