Deuteronomy 9:1-2
Hear, O Israel: thou art to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fortified up to heaven,a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the sons of Anak?

Numbers 13:28-33
Howbeit the people that dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.Amalek dwelleth in the land of the South: and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, dwell in the hill- country; and the Canaanite dwelleth by the sea, and along by the side of the Jordan.And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the lamp of Israel.And it came to pass after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaare- oregim the Beth- lehemite slew Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, slew him.These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses had spoken: and he drove out thence the three sons of Anak.
