in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.

In that year I learned from the Scriptures that Jerusalem would remain destroyed for 70 years. That was what the Lord had told Jeremiah the prophet.

in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years.

「耶和華如此說：為巴比倫所定的七十年滿了以後，我要眷顧你們，向你們實現我的恩言，使你們歸回此地。

這就應驗耶和華藉耶利米的口所說的話：地得享安息；在荒涼的日子，地就守安息，直到滿了七十年。

「你要向這地全體百姓和祭司說：『你們這七十年來，在五月、七月禁食悲哀，豈是真的向我禁食嗎？

這全地必然荒涼，令人驚駭。這些國家要服事巴比倫王七十年。七十年滿了以後，我必懲罰巴比倫王和那國，並迦勒底人之地，因他們的罪孽使那地永遠荒涼。這是耶和華說的。

波斯王居魯士元年，耶和華為要應驗藉耶利米的口所說的話，就激發波斯王居魯士的心，使他下詔書通告全國，說：

誦讀這書上預言的，和那些聽見又遵守其中所記載的，都是有福的，因為時候近了。

我們有先知更確實的信息，你們要好好地留意這信息，如同留意照耀在暗處的明燈，直等到天亮，晨星在你們心裏升起的時候。第一要緊的，你們要知道，經上所有的預言是不可隨私意解釋的，因為預言從來沒有出於人意的，而是人被聖靈感動說出上帝的話來。

論到這救恩，那預先說你們要得恩典的眾先知已經詳細地搜索查考過，查考在他們心裏的基督的靈預先證明基督受苦難，後來得榮耀，是指甚麼時候，甚麼樣的情況。他們得了啟示，知道他們所服事的不是自己，而是你們。那藉着從天上差來的聖靈傳福音給你們的人，現在將這些事傳給你們；這些事連天使也都切望察看呢！

並且知道你從小明白聖經，這聖經能使你因在基督耶穌裏的信有得救的智慧。聖經都是上帝所默示的，於教訓、督責、使人歸正、教導人學義都是有益的，叫屬上帝的人得以完全，預備行各樣的善事。

因此，為你們的緣故，錫安要被耕種像一塊田地，耶路撒冷要變為廢墟，這殿的山必如叢林的高處。

上帝啊，外邦人侵犯你的產業，玷污你的聖殿，使耶路撒冷變成廢墟，將你僕人的屍首交給天空的飛鳥為食，把你聖民的肉交給地上的走獸，

我－但以理見了這異象，想要明白其中的意思。看哪，有一位形狀像人的站在我面前。我聽見烏萊河中有人聲呼叫說：「加百列啊，要使這人明白這異象。」

「當猶大王希西家的日子，有摩利沙人彌迦對猶大眾百姓預言說：『萬軍之耶和華如此說：錫安要被耕種像一塊田地，耶路撒冷要變為廢墟，這殿的山必像叢林的高處。』

唉！先前人口稠密的城市，現在為何獨坐！先前在列國中為大的，現在竟如寡婦！先前在各省中為王后的，現在竟成為服苦役的人！

荒涼的城拆毀了，各家關閉，無法進入。有人在街上嚷着要酒喝，一切的喜樂變為昏暗，地上的歡樂全都消失。城裏盡是荒涼，城門全都摧毀。

我就必使這殿如示羅，使這城成為地上萬國所詛咒的。』」

太監回答腓利說：「請問，先知說這話是指誰，是指自己，還是指別人呢？」

我比我的教師更通達，因我思想你的法度。我比年老的更明白，因我謹守你的訓詞。

「當你們看見先知但以理所說的那『施行毀滅的褻瀆者』站在聖地（讀這經的人要會意），

其中有耶路撒冷和猶大的城鎮，並耶路撒冷的君王與領袖；因此這城鎮荒涼，令人驚駭、嗤笑、詛咒，正如今日一樣。

那時，我必止息猶大城鎮和耶路撒冷街上歡喜和快樂的聲音、新郎和新娘的聲音，因為這地必然荒蕪。」

你的聖城已變為曠野；錫安變為曠野，耶路撒冷成為廢墟。

要以宣讀聖經，勸勉，教導為念，直等到我來。

你的法度也是我的喜樂，我的導師。

我就說：「主啊，這到幾時為止呢？」他說：「直到城鎮荒涼，無人居住，房屋空無一人，土地極其荒蕪；耶和華將人遷到遠方，國內被撇棄的土地很多。

「當你們看見那『施行毀滅的褻瀆者』站在不當站的地方（讀這經的人要會意），那時，在猶太的，應當逃到山上；

列國都要服事他和他的子孫，直到他本國遭報的日期來到；那時，許多國家和大君王要使他作奴隸。

求你舉步去看那日久荒涼之地，看仇敵在聖所中所做的一切惡事。你的敵人在你會中吼叫，他們豎起自己的標幟為記號，好像人揚起斧子對着林中的樹，現在將聖所中的雕刻，全都用斧子錘子打壞。他們用火焚燒你的聖所，褻瀆你名的居所於地。
