“ O Lord our God, you brought lasting honor to your name by rescuing your people from Egypt in a great display of power. But we have sinned and are full of wickedness.

“ Now, Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand and who made for yourself a name that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong.

“ Lord our God, you used your mighty hand to bring your people out of Egypt. You made a name for yourself. It is still great to this day. But we have sinned. We’ve done what is wrong.

And now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and have made a name for yourself, as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

Now, Lord our God— who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand and made your name renowned as it is this day— we have sinned, we have acted wickedly.

“ And now, Lord, our God, You who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made a name for Yourself, as it is this day— we have sinned, we have been wicked.

And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made Yourself a name, as it is this day— we have sinned, we have done wickedly!

And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

Now, Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made Your name renowned as it is this day, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly.

And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

“ Now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with great power and made a name for yourself that is remembered to this day– we have sinned and behaved wickedly.

“ Now, Lord our God, who has brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and have gotten yourself renown, as it is today; we have sinned. We have done wickedly.

You displayed miraculous signs and wonders against Pharaoh, his officials, and all his people, for you knew how arrogantly they were treating our ancestors. You have a glorious reputation that has never been forgotten.

When my glory is displayed through them, all Egypt will see my glory and know that I am the Lord!”

But Moses tried to pacify the Lord his God.“ O Lord!” he said.“ Why are you so angry with your own people whom you brought from the land of Egypt with such great power and such a strong hand?

“ The people you rescued by your great power and strong hand are your servants.

Then the Lord told Moses,“ Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh. When he feels the force of my strong hand, he will let the people go. In fact, he will force them to leave his land!”

But we have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations.

Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the Lord’s name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”

You performed miraculous signs and wonders in the land of Egypt— things still remembered to this day! And you have continued to do great miracles in Israel and all around the world. You have made your name famous to this day.“ You brought Israel out of Egypt with mighty signs and wonders, with a strong hand and powerful arm, and with overwhelming terror.You gave the people of Israel this land that you had promised their ancestors long before— a land flowing with milk and honey.Our ancestors came and conquered it and lived in it, but they refused to obey you or follow your word. They have not done anything you commanded. That is why you have sent this terrible disaster upon them.

His son said to him,‘ Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’

I signed and sealed the deed of purchase before witnesses, weighed out the silver, and paid him.

And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.

“ Therefore, say to the people of Israel:‘ I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment.

for they are your people— your special possession— whom you brought out of the iron smelting furnace of Egypt.

Then the Lord gave these instructions to Moses:“ Order the Israelites to turn back and camp by Pi hahiroth between Migdol and the sea. Camp there along the shore, across from Baal zephon.Then Pharaoh will think,‘ The Israelites are confused. They are trapped in the wilderness!’And once again I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after you. I have planned this in order to display my glory through Pharaoh and his whole army. After this the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord!” So the Israelites camped there as they were told.When word reached the king of Egypt that the Israelites had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds.“ What have we done, letting all those Israelite slaves get away?” they asked.So Pharaoh harnessed his chariot and called up his troops.He took with him 600 of Egypt’s best chariots, along with the rest of the chariots of Egypt, each with its commander.The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, so he chased after the people of Israel, who had left with fists raised in defiance.The Egyptians chased after them with all the forces in Pharaoh’s army— all his horses and chariots, his charioteers, and his troops. The Egyptians caught up with the people of Israel as they were camped beside the shore near Pi hahiroth, across from Baal zephon.As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord,and they said to Moses,“ Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt?Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said,‘ Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”But Moses told the people,“ Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving!

But I have spared you for a purpose— to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth.

I will go home to my father and say,“ Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you,and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”’

Even so, he saved them— to defend the honor of his name and to demonstrate his mighty power.

“ But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying,‘ O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’
