Then I, Daniel, was overcome and lay sick for several days. Afterward I got up and performed my duties for the king, but I was greatly troubled by the vision and could not understand it.

I, Daniel, was worn out. I lay exhausted for several days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business. I was appalled by the vision; it was beyond understanding.

I trembled inside when I heard this; my lips quivered with fear. My legs gave way beneath me, and I shook in terror. I will wait quietly for the coming day when disaster will strike the people who invade us.

Samuel stayed in bed until morning, then got up and opened the doors of the Tabernacle as usual. He was afraid to tell Eli what the Lord had said to him.

So I was left there all alone to see this amazing vision. My strength left me, my face grew deathly pale, and I felt very weak.

Then the one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing in front of me,“ I am filled with anguish because of the vision I have seen, my lord, and I am very weak.

The goat charged furiously at the ram and struck him, breaking off both his horns. Now the ram was helpless, and the goat knocked him down and trampled him. No one could rescue the ram from the goat’s power.

In this vision I was at the fortress of Susa, in the province of Elam, standing beside the Ulai River.

I have heard that you have the spirit of the gods within you and that you are filled with insight, understanding, and wisdom.

Then the king appointed Daniel to a high position and gave him many valuable gifts. He made Daniel ruler over the whole province of Babylon, as well as chief over all his wise men.At Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be in charge of all the affairs of the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the king’s court.

The king also chose Daniel and two others as administrators to supervise the high officers and protect the king’s interests.Daniel soon proved himself more capable than all the other administrators and high officers. Because of Daniel’s great ability, the king made plans to place him over the entire empire.
