這話在王口中尚未說完，有聲音從天降下，說：「尼布甲尼撒王啊，有話對你說，你的國位離開你了。

惡人誇勝是暫時的，不敬虔人的喜樂不過轉眼之間嗎？

他們貪而無厭，食物還在他們口中的時候，神的怒氣就向他們上騰，殺了他們內中的肥壯人，打倒以色列的少年人。

於是王的一切哲士都進來，卻不能讀那文字，也不能把講解告訴王。

因此從神那裏顯出指頭來寫這文字。「所寫的文字是：『彌尼，彌尼，提客勒，烏法珥新。』講解是這樣：彌尼，就是神已經數算你國的年日到此完畢。提客勒，就是你被稱在天平裏，顯出你的虧欠。毗勒斯，就是你的國分裂，歸與米底亞人和波斯人。」

我又看見死了的人，無論大小，都站在寶座前。案卷展開了，並且另有一卷展開，就是生命冊。死了的人都憑着這些案卷所記載的，照他們所行的受審判。於是海交出其中的死人；死亡和陰間也交出其中的死人；他們都照各人所行的受審判。死亡和陰間也被扔在火湖裏；這火湖就是第二次的死。若有人名字沒記在生命冊上，他就被扔在火湖裏。

現在哲士和用法術的都領到我面前，為叫他們讀這文字，把講解告訴我，無奈他們都不能把講解說出來。

人屢次受責罰，仍然硬着頸項；他必頃刻敗壞，無法可治。

又塗抹了在律例上所寫、攻擊我們、有礙於我們的字據，把它撤去，釘在十字架上。

當時這話就應驗在尼布甲尼撒的身上，他被趕出離開世人，吃草如牛，身被天露滴濕，頭髮長長，好像鷹毛；指甲長長，如同鳥爪。

因為你們自己明明曉得，主的日子來到，好像夜間的賊一樣。人正說「平安穩妥」的時候，災禍忽然臨到他們，如同產難臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

然後要對我的靈魂說：靈魂哪，你有許多財物積存，可作多年的費用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！』神卻對他說：『無知的人哪，今夜必要你的靈魂；你所預備的要歸誰呢？』
