One courier runs to meet another, And one messenger to meet another, To tell the king of Babylon That his city has been captured from end to end;

“ I will make her leaders and her wise men drunk, Her governors, her officials, and her warriors, So that they will sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake up,” Declares the King, whose name is the Lord of armies.

When they become heated up, I will serve them their banquet And make them drunk, so that they may rejoice in triumph, And may sleep a perpetual sleep And not wake up,” declares the Lord.

Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers! The Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, Because His plan is against Babylon to destroy it; For it is the vengeance of the Lord, vengeance for His temple.

Belshazzar the king held a great feast for a thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in the presence of the thousand.While he tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave orders to bring the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines could drink out of them.

But these two things will come on you suddenly in one day: Loss of children and widowhood. They will come on you in full measure In spite of your many sorceries, In spite of the great power of your spells.

My mind reels, horror overwhelms me; The twilight I longed for has been turned into trembling for me.They set the table, they spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink;“ Rise up, captains, oil the shields!”For this is what the Lord says to me:“ Go, station the lookout, have him report what he sees.When he sees a column of chariots, horsemen in pairs, A train of donkeys, a train of camels, He is to pay close attention, very close attention.”Then the lookout called,“ Lord, I stand continually by day on the watchtower, And I am stationed every night at my guard post.Now behold, here comes a troop of riders, horsemen in pairs.” And one said,“ Fallen, fallen is Babylon; And all the images of her gods are shattered on the ground.”
