尼布甲尼撒曾讓他奉上帝的名起誓，他卻背叛了尼布甲尼撒。他頑固不化，不肯歸向以色列的上帝耶和華。

但他們充耳不聞，像他們祖先一樣頑固不化，不信靠他們的上帝耶和華，

驕橫是淪亡的前奏，狂傲是敗落的預兆。

「以色列的上帝——萬軍之耶和華說，『看啊，我要把我說過的災禍降在這城及其周圍的村莊，因為他們頑固不化，不肯聽我的話。』」

發洩你滿腔的怒火，鑒察驕傲者，貶抑他；鑒察驕傲者，制伏他，將惡人原地踐踏；

耶和華厭惡心驕氣傲者，他們必逃不過祂的責罰。

趁著還有今日，要天天互相勸勉，免得有人被罪迷惑，心裡變得剛硬。

因為他揮拳對抗上帝，藐視全能者，拿著堅盾傲慢地挑戰祂。他滿臉肥肉，腰間堆滿脂肪。

「明亮的晨星、黎明之子啊，你怎麼從天上墜落下來？你這打敗列國的怎麼被砍倒在地上？你曾想，『我要升到天上，把自己的寶座設在上帝的眾星之上；我要坐在遙遠的北方眾神明聚會的山上；我要升到雲天之上，使自己與至高者一樣。』可是，你必墜入陰間，掉進死亡的深坑。看見你的都瞪大眼睛盯著你，都在想，『這就是那曾使大地震動、列國顫抖的人嗎？這就是那曾使天下荒涼、城邑傾覆、不肯釋放俘虜回家的人嗎？』

現在我尼布甲尼撒頌讚、尊崇、敬奉天上的王，因為祂的作為公正，祂行事公平，能夠貶抑行為驕傲的人。」

說：「這宏偉的巴比倫豈不是我用大能建立為京都，以顯我的威嚴和榮耀嗎？」話未說完，天上就有聲音說：「尼布甲尼撒王啊，你聽著，你已失去王權。你必從人群中被趕走，與野獸同住，像牛一樣吃草，達七年之久，直到你知道至高者主宰世上萬國，祂要把國賜給誰就賜給誰。」這話立刻應驗在尼布甲尼撒身上。他從人群中被趕走，像牛一樣吃草，身體被天上的露水浸濕，直到他的頭髮長如鷹毛，指甲長如鳥爪。

祂伸出臂膀，施展大能，驅散心驕氣傲的人。祂使當權者失勢，叫謙卑的人升高。

「耶和華說，『埃及的盟友都要覆滅，埃及的傲氣必蕩然無存，從密奪到色弗尼的居民都要喪身刀下。這是主耶和華說的。

「我告訴你們，二人回家後，被上帝算為義的是稅吏而不是法利賽人，因為自高的人必遭貶抑，謙卑的人必得尊榮。」

「巴比倫的少女啊，下來坐在塵土中吧！迦勒底的姑娘啊，坐在沒有寶座的地上吧！因為你必不再嬌柔細嫩。

「底本的居民啊，你們要從榮耀的位子上下來，坐在乾旱的地上，因為毀滅摩押的要來攻擊你們，摧毀你們的堡壘。

我現在知道，耶和華比一切神明都偉大，因為祂懲治了虐待這些百姓的狂妄之徒。」

你們為什麼像法老和埃及人那樣心裡頑固呢？當上帝嚴厲地對待他們時，他們豈沒有讓以色列人離開埃及嗎？
