Soon the whole city was filled with confusion. Everyone rushed to the amphitheater, dragging along Gaius and Aristarchus, who were Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia.

Several men were traveling with him. They were Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea; Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe; Timothy; and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia.

Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica, was also with us. We left on a ship whose home port was Adramyttium on the northwest coast of the province of Asia; it was scheduled to make several stops at ports along the coast of the province.

When he realized this, he went to the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered for prayer.

Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark.But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work.Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus.

There, in the town of Salamis, they went to the Jewish synagogues and preached the word of God. John Mark went with them as their assistant.

Timothy, my fellow worker, sends you his greetings, as do Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, my fellow Jews.I, Tertius, the one writing this letter for Paul, send my greetings, too, as one of the Lord’s followers.Gaius says hello to you. He is my host and also serves as host to the whole church. Erastus, the city treasurer, sends you his greetings, and so does our brother Quartus.

Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews, who were in prison with me. They are highly respected among the apostles and became followers of Christ before I did.

Welcome her in the Lord as one who is worthy of honor among God’s people. Help her in whatever she needs, for she has been helpful to many, and especially to me.

Paul and his companions then left Paphos by ship for Pamphylia, landing at the port town of Perga. There John Mark left them and returned to Jerusalem.

For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas( which means“ Son of Encouragement”). He was from the tribe of Levi and came from the island of Cyprus.
