他们饮酒，赞美金、银、铜、铁、木、石造的神明。当时，忽然有人的指头出现，在灯台对面王宫粉刷的墙上写字。王看见写字的指头，就变了脸色，心意惊惶，腰骨好像脱节，双膝彼此相碰，

愿黑暗和死荫索取那日，愿密云停在其上，愿白天的昏暗恐吓它。

为此，我腰部满是疼痛，痛苦将我抓住，好像临产的妇人一样的痛。我疼痛甚至不能听，我惊惶甚至不能看。我心慌乱，惊恐威吓我。我所渴望的黄昏，反成为我的恐惧。

你们像杂乱的荆棘，像喝醉了的人，又如枯干的碎秸，全然烧灭。

他们必为你放声痛哭，撒尘土于头上，在灰中打滚；又为你使头光秃，用麻布束腰，号啕痛哭，痛苦至极。

亚比该到拿八那里，看哪，他在家里摆设宴席，如同王的宴席。拿八心情舒畅，酩酊大醉。所以亚比该大小事都没有告诉他，直等到早晨天亮的时候。到了早晨，拿八酒醒了，他的妻子把这些事都告诉他，他就发心脏病快死了，僵如石头。过了十天，耶和华击打拿八，他就死了。

押沙龙吩咐仆人说：“你们注意，暗嫩开怀畅饮的时候，我对你们说击杀暗嫩，你们就杀他。不要惧怕，这不是我吩咐你们的吗？你们要刚强，作勇士！”押沙龙的仆人就照押沙龙所吩咐的，向暗嫩行了。王所有的儿子都起来，各人骑上骡子逃跑了。他们还在路上，就有风声传到大卫那里，说：“押沙龙击杀了王所有的儿子，没有留下一个。”王就起来，撕裂衣服，躺在地上。王的臣仆全都撕裂衣服，站在旁边。
