“ My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the Lord.“ Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence.

“ They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord,“ who store up in their fortresses what they have plundered and looted.”

“ They do not know how to do what is right,” announces the Lord.“ They store up stolen goods in their forts.”

“ They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord,“ those who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds.”

The people are incapable of doing right— this is the LORD’s declaration— those who store up violence and destruction in their citadels.

But they do not know how to do what is right,” declares the Lord,“ these who store up violence and devastation in their citadels.”

For they do not know to do right,’ Says the Lord,‘ Who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.’”

“ They do not know how to do what is right.”( The LORD is speaking.)“ They store up the spoils of destructive violence in their fortresses.

“ Indeed they don’t know to do right,” says Yahweh,“ Who hoard plunder and loot in their palaces.”

“ My people are foolish and do not know me,” says the Lord.“ They are stupid children who have no understanding. They are clever enough at doing wrong, but they have no idea how to do right!”

Yes, I will punish those who participate in pagan worship ceremonies, and those who fill their masters’ houses with violence and deceit.

Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to the Lord.

Then he said to me,“ This scroll contains the curse that is going out over the entire land. One side of the scroll says that those who steal will be banished from the land; the other side says that those who swear falsely will be banished from the land.And this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: I am sending this curse into the house of every thief and into the house of everyone who swears falsely using my name. And my curse will remain in that house and completely destroy it— even its timbers and stones.”

They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water.

Then I said,“ But what can we expect from the poor? They are ignorant. They don’t know the ways of the Lord. They don’t understand God’s laws.

You twist justice, making it a bitter pill for the oppressed. You treat the righteous like dirt.

Can horses gallop over boulders? Can oxen be used to plow them? But that’s how foolish you are when you turn justice into poison and the sweet fruit of righteousness into bitterness.

Your gold and silver are corroded. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This corroded treasure you have hoarded will testify against you on the day of judgment.For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Because you have plundered many nations, now all the survivors will plunder you. You committed murder throughout the countryside and filled the towns with violence.“ What sorrow awaits you who build big houses with money gained dishonestly! You believe your wealth will buy security, putting your family’s nest beyond the reach of danger.But by the murders you committed, you have shamed your name and forfeited your lives.The very stones in the walls cry out against you, and the beams in the ceilings echo the complaint.
