“ They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord,“ those who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds.”

“ My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the Lord.“ Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence.

The people are incapable of doing right— this is the LORD’s declaration— those who store up violence and destruction in their citadels.

“ For My people are foolish, They have not known Me. They are silly children, And they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, But to do good they have no knowledge.”

In the same day I will punish All those who leap over the threshold, Who fill their masters’ houses with violence and deceit.

Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the Lord?

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth:‘ Every thief shall be expelled,’ according to this side of the scroll; and,‘ Every perjurer shall be expelled,’ according to that side of it.”“ I will send out the curse,” says the Lord of hosts;“ It shall enter the house of the thief And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It shall remain in the midst of his house And consume it, with its timber and stones.”

For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water,

Therefore I said,“ Surely these are poor. They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord, The judgment of their God.

You who turn justice to wormwood, And lay righteousness to rest in the earth!”

Do horses run on rocks? Does one plow there with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into gall, And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you, Because of men’s blood And the violence of the land and the city, And of all who dwell in it.“ Woe to him who covets evil gain for his house, That he may set his nest on high, That he may be delivered from the power of disaster!You give shameful counsel to your house, Cutting off many peoples, And sin against your soul.For the stone will cry out from the wall, And the beam from the timbers will answer it.
