是時天主未嘗在此地賜之以業、即立足之地、亦未賜之、惟許以此地賜彼及其子孫為業、時亞伯拉罕尚未有子也、

然未嘗畀之為業、抑且身無立錐之地、惟有以此賜彼及其後裔為業之許諾。而亞伯漢當時固未有後也。

He gave him no inheritance here, not even enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child.

God didn’t give him any property here. He didn’t even give him enough land to set his foot on. But God made a promise to him and to all his family after him. He said they would possess the land. The promise was made even though at that time Abraham had no child.

Yet he gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot’s length, but promised to give it to him as a possession and to his offspring after him, though he had no child.

我要將你現在寄居的地，就是迦南全地，賜給你和你的後裔永遠為業，我也必作他們的神。」

耶和華向亞伯蘭顯現，說：「我要把這地賜給你的後裔。」亞伯蘭就在那裏為向他顯現的耶和華築了一座壇。

凡你所看見的一切地，我都要賜給你和你的後裔，直到永遠。

當那日，耶和華與亞伯蘭立約，說：「我已賜給你的後裔，從埃及河直到幼發拉底大河之地，

你寄居在這地，我必與你同在，賜福給你，因為我要將這些地都賜給你和你的後裔。我必堅定我向你父亞伯拉罕所起的誓。

你見他在你面前心裏誠實，就與他立約，應許把迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、革迦撒人之地賜給他的後裔，且應驗了你的話，因為你是公義的。

耶和華對他說：「這就是我向亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許之地，說：『我必將這地賜給你的後裔。』現在我使你眼睛看見了，你卻不得過到那裏去。」

「我在你們中間是外人，是寄居的。求你們在這裏給我一塊地，我好埋葬我的死人，使她不在我眼前。」

耶和華站在梯子以上，說：「我是耶和華－你祖亞伯拉罕的神，也是以撒的神；我要將你現在所躺臥之地賜給你和你的後裔。你的後裔必像地上的塵沙那樣多，必向東西南北開展；地上萬族必因你和你的後裔得福。我也與你同在。你無論往哪裏去，我必保佑你，領你歸回這地，總不離棄你，直到我成全了向你所應許的。」

你進去得他們的地，並不是因你的義，也不是因你心裏正直，乃是因這些國民的惡，耶和華－你的神將他們從你面前趕出去，又因耶和華要堅定他向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓所應許的話。

並使你們的日子在耶和華向你們列祖起誓、應許給他們和他們後裔的地上得以長久；那是流奶與蜜之地。

他因着信，就在所應許之地作客，好像在異地居住帳棚，與那同蒙一個應許的以撒、雅各一樣。因為他等候那座有根基的城，就是神所經營所建造的。

我要以你們為我的百姓，我也要作你們的神。你們要知道我是耶和華－你們的神，是救你們脫離埃及人之重擔的。我起誓應許給亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各的那地，我要把你們領進去，將那地賜給你們為業。我是耶和華。』」

「耶和華－你的神領你進他向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許給你的地。那裏有城邑，又大又美，非你所建造的；有房屋，裝滿各樣美物，非你所裝滿的；有鑿成的水井，非你所鑿成的；還有葡萄園、橄欖園，非你所栽種的；你吃了而且飽足。

我必賜福給她，也要使你從她得一個兒子。我要賜福給她，她也要作多國之母；必有百姓的君王從她而出。」亞伯拉罕就俯伏在地喜笑，心裏說：「一百歲的人還能得孩子嗎？撒拉已經九十歲了，還能生養嗎？」亞伯拉罕對神說：「但願以實瑪利活在你面前。」神說：「不然，你妻子撒拉要給你生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫以撒。我要與他堅定所立的約，作他後裔永遠的約。

耶和華吩咐我說：『你起來引導這百姓，使他們進去得我向他們列祖起誓應許所賜之地。』」

不可與他們爭戰；他們的地，連腳掌可踏之處，我都不給你們，因我已將西珥山賜給以掃為業。

他記念他的約，直到永遠；他所吩咐的話，直到千代－就是與亞伯拉罕所立的約，向以撒所起的誓。他又將這約向雅各定為律例，向以色列定為永遠的約，說：我必將迦南地賜給你，作你產業的分。當時，他們人丁有限，數目稀少，並且在那地為寄居的。

撒萊對亞伯蘭說：「耶和華使我不能生育。求你和我的使女同房，或者我可以因她得孩子。」亞伯蘭聽從了撒萊的話。

亞伯蘭說：「主耶和華啊，我既無子，你還賜我甚麼呢？並且要承受我家業的是大馬士革人以利以謝。」亞伯蘭又說：「你沒有給我兒子；那生在我家中的人就是我的後嗣。」耶和華又有話對他說：「這人必不成為你的後嗣；你本身所生的才成為你的後嗣。」於是領他走到外邊，說：「你向天觀看，數算眾星，能數得過來嗎？」又對他說：「你的後裔將要如此。」

這些人都是存着信心死的，並沒有得着所應許的；卻從遠處望見，且歡喜迎接，又承認自己在世上是客旅，是寄居的。說這樣話的人是表明自己要找一個家鄉。他們若想念所離開的家鄉，還有可以回去的機會。他們卻羨慕一個更美的家鄉，就是在天上的。所以神被稱為他們的神，並不以為恥，因為他已經給他們預備了一座城。
