One day Peter and John were going up to the temple. It was three o’clock in the afternoon. It was the time for prayer.

Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said,“ Cornelius!”

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria.

Cornelius answered:“ Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Then someone came and said,“ Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.”

while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.

And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter,“ It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say,“ It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him( for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.

He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.

One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said,“ Ask him which one he means.”Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him,“ Lord, who is it?”

So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said,“ They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in.Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there,as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.( They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)

Jesus sent Peter and John, saying,“ Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”

Offer one in the morning and the other at twilight.

At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed:“ Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command.

Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him,“ Follow me!”Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them.( This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said,“ Lord, who is going to betray you?”)When Peter saw him, he asked,“ Lord, what about him?”Jesus answered,“ If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.Jesus called out with a loud voice,“ Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Offer one lamb in the morning and the other at twilight,

James, Cephas and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised.
