有一个出生在塞浦路斯的利未人约瑟，使徒们称他为巴拿巴——“巴拿巴”翻译出来就是“安慰之子”；

他看见门徒们由于逆风，划船非常艰苦。天快亮的时候，耶稣在湖面上行走，向他们而去，想要从他们旁边走过去。

这样，他们两个人受圣灵的差遣，就下到塞琉西亚，又从那里坐船前往塞浦路斯岛，

凯撒里亚的一些门徒也陪我们一起去，带我们到一个塞浦路斯人纳森家里去作客住宿。他做门徒已经很久了。

我们望见塞浦路斯岛，驶过的时候它在左边。我们继续向叙利亚省航行，在提尔登陆，因为船要在那里卸货。

一连好几天，船航行得很慢，好不容易才到了尼多斯港附近。因为风拦阻我们往前，我们就从撒摩尼岬附近经过，沿着克里特岛的背风岸航行。

于是那些因司提反的事受患难而四散的信徒，就一直走到腓尼基地区、塞浦路斯岛和安提阿。他们只向犹太人，而不向任何人传讲福音。但其中有一些塞浦路斯人和古利奈人，来到安提阿，也向希腊人讲道，传主耶稣的福音。

两个人起了激烈的争执，以致彼此分手。巴拿巴带着马可，坐船到塞浦路斯岛去；

那时，船已经离岸有几百公尺，由于逆风，被波浪冲击。
