They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

They saw something that looked like fire in the shape of tongues. The flames separated and came to rest on each of them.

And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them.

Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them.

They asked each other,“ Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (niv)

The Lord said,“ If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. (niv)

( both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs— we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” (niv)

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; (niv)

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (niv)

Jesus replied,“ Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. (niv)

But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap.He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, (niv)

The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. (niv)

Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words, for I see violence and strife in the city. (niv)

to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. (niv)
