Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

爾所知也、此保羅勸導多人、使之轉移、謂手所作者非神、不第於以弗所、亦幾徧亞西亞、爾亦聞且見之矣、

保羅乃惑眾、言手所作者非上帝、不第於以弗所、殆徧亞西亞矣、此爾曹所見所聞也、

此保羅誘惑多人、不第在以弗所、亦幾遍亞西亞、言手所造者非王、此爾曹所見所知也、

乃彼葆樂、不第於依法所、且幾遍亞細亞、勸阻多人、謂人手所製者非神、此汝等所見所聞也。

And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all.

You have seen and heard what this fellow Paul is doing. He has talked to large numbers of people here in Ephesus. Almost everywhere in Asia Minor he has led people away from our gods. He says that the gods made by human hands are not gods at all.

And you see and hear that not only in Ephesus but in almost all of Asia this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great many people, saying that gods made with hands are not gods.

But as you have seen and heard, this man Paul has persuaded many people that handmade gods aren’t really gods at all. And he’s done this not only here in Ephesus but throughout the entire province!

You see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost all of Asia, this man Paul has persuaded and misled a considerable number of people by saying that gods made by hand are not gods.

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol[ is] nothing in the world, and that[ there is] none other God but one.

Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image[ that] is profitable for nothing?Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they[ are] of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up;[ yet] they shall fear,[ and] they shall be ashamed together.The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.The carpenter stretcheth out[ his] rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish[ it].Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth[ it], and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth[ it]; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth[ himself], and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:And the residue thereof he maketh a god,[ even] his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth[ it], and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou[ art] my god.They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see;[ and] their hearts, that they cannot understand.And none considereth in his heart, neither[ is there] knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten[ it]: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say,[ Is there] not a lie in my right hand?

Every man is brutish in[ his] knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image[ is] falsehood, and[ there is] no breath in them.They[ are] vanity,[ and] the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth,[ even] they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.

And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

The idols of the heathen[ are] silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there[ any] breath in their mouths.They that make them are like unto them:[ so is] every one that trusteth in them.

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

For the customs of the people[ are] vain: for[ one] cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.They[ are] upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also[ is it] in them to do good.Forasmuch as[ there is] none like unto thee, O LORD; thou[ art] great, and thy name[ is] great in might.

Their idols[ are] silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.They that make them are like unto them;[ so is] every one that trusteth in them.

And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and[ there are] many adversaries.

To whom will ye liken me, and make[ me] equal, and compare me, that we may be like?They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance,[ and] hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea,[ one] shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring[ it] again to mind, O ye transgressors.

What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?But I[ say], that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

For from Israel[ was] it also: the workman made it; therefore it[ is] not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all[ men]: and they counted the price of them, and found[ it] fifty thousand[ pieces] of silver.So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
