有一個婦人名叫呂底亞，是推雅推喇城一個賣紫色布的，素來敬拜上帝；她直聽着；主敞開她的心，叫她注意保羅所講的。

而打發提摩太、在基督的福音上做我們的兄弟、做上帝同工的、為着你們信心的益處、去使你們堅固，去鼓勵你們，免得有人在這些患難中被誘動；因為你們自己也知道，我們是被派定而受苦的。

堅固門徒的心，鼓勵他們要堅守信仰。又說我們要進上帝的國、經由許多苦難是必須的。』

我們四面受逼，卻沒有被困住；計謀絕了，卻沒有絕望；遭逼迫，卻沒有被撇棄；被打倒，卻沒打到死去；身體上時常帶着耶穌的死，好叫耶穌的活也在我們這身體上顯明出來。因為我們這些人雖然活着，卻永遠為了耶穌的緣故被送交於死，好叫耶穌的活也在我們這能死的肉身上顯明出來。這樣看來，死是運用動力在我們身上，而活卻運用動力在你們身上啊！

二人既被釋放，就到自己的人那裏去，把祭司長和長老所向他們說的一切話都報告了。

所以我們不喪志。我們這外表的人雖漸敗壞，我們這內心的人卻日日更新。我們這片刻間輕微的苦難、正為我們作成着高超無量極重無比永世之榮耀呢。我們原不是顧念着所看得見的，乃是顧念着所看不見的；因為所看得見的是暫時的，所看不見的乃是永世的。

願祝頌歸於我們主耶穌基督的父上帝、憐憫的父、賜各樣安慰的上帝。在我們的一切苦難中、他安慰我們，使我們能藉着我們自己受上帝所安慰的安慰、去安慰在各樣苦難中的人。因為基督所受的苦怎樣溢流到我們身上來，我們所得的安慰也怎樣藉着基督而溢流出去。我們或是受苦難，那是為要使你們受安慰得拯救；或是受安慰呢、那也是為要使你們受安慰；這安慰運用動力於堅忍，使你們能忍受我們所受同樣的苦。我們為你們而存的盼望是確定的，因為知道你們既有分於受苦，也照樣必有分於受安慰。

他看透了情勢，就往稱馬可之約翰的母親馬利亞家裏；在那裏有好些人集合着禱告。彼得敲了門廊的門；有個使女名叫羅大、上前來細聽，認得彼得的聲音，由於歡喜的緣故、沒有開門，卻跑進去報告說彼得站在門前。大家對她說：『你瘋了！』使女卻極力地說有這樣的事。他們就說：『那必是他的護衛天使了。』彼得繼續地敲門；他們開了門，看見彼得，就很驚奇。彼得擺手叫他們別出聲，就向他們敘說主怎樣領他出監；又說：『你們要把這些事向雅各和弟兄們報告。』就出來，往別處去了。

他是路司得以哥念的弟兄所稱讚的。
