有一個敬拜神的婦人，名叫莉迪婭，是錫亞蒂拉城賣紫色布的商人。她一直在聽，主開啟她的心竅，使她留心保羅所講的話。

並派了我們的弟兄——在基督的福音工作上的神的同工提摩太，好在信仰上堅固你們、鼓勵你們，免得有人在這些患難中動搖。因為你們自己知道，我們要受患難是註定的。

堅固門徒們的心，鼓勵他們持守信仰，說：「我們進入神的國，必須經過很多患難。」

我們處處受患難，卻不被壓碎；心裡困惑，卻沒有絕望；受逼迫，卻不被撇棄；被打倒，卻沒有滅亡。我們身上總是帶著耶穌的死，好讓耶穌的生命也在我們身上顯明出來。的確，我們這些活著的人，為了耶穌的緣故，總是被置於死地，好讓耶穌的生命也顯明在我們這會死的肉體上。這樣，死亡在我們裡面做工，而生命卻在你們裡面做工。

彼得和約翰被釋放了，就回到自己的人那裡，把祭司長們和長老們所說的話都告訴他們。

因此我們不喪膽。即使我們外在的人漸漸衰朽，我們內在的人還是日日被更新。原來我們這暫時、輕微的患難，正為我們帶來極重無比、永恆的榮耀。我們所注重的不是看得見的，而是看不見的；因為看得見的是暫時的，看不見的卻是永恆的。

願頌讚歸於神——我們主耶穌基督的父！他是各樣憐憫的父、一切安慰的神。在我們一切的患難中，他安慰我們，使我們自己能用從神所受的安慰去安慰那些在各樣患難中的人，因為基督的苦難怎樣充充滿滿臨到我們，藉著基督，我們的安慰也照樣充充滿滿。我們如果受患難，是為了你們的安慰和救恩；我們如果受安慰，也是為了你們的安慰；這安慰有功效，使你們能忍耐與我們所受的同樣苦難。而且我們對你們的盼望是確定的，因為知道你們怎樣在苦難中與我們有份，也怎樣在安慰中與我們有份。

他明白之後，就到約翰的母親瑪麗亞家去，這約翰又叫馬可。有許多人聚集在那裡禱告。彼得敲了外面的門，一個叫羅妲的女僕前來應門。她一認出是彼得的聲音，就高興得顧不上打開門，跑進去告訴大家說，彼得站在門外。他們對羅妲說：「你瘋了！」可是她堅持就是如此。他們不住地說：「那是他的天使。」這時，彼得不停地敲門。他們就打開了門，看見是他，都十分驚訝。彼得揮一下手叫他們安靜，告訴他們主怎樣領他出了監獄，又說：「你們把這些事告訴雅各和弟兄們。」然後他就出發，往別的地方去了。

路司得和以哥念的弟兄們都讚許他。
