耶和華吩咐耶利米說：“你要對尼希蘭人示瑪雅說：‘萬軍之耶和華以色列的神這樣說：你曾用自己的名寄信給在耶路撒冷的眾民、瑪西雅祭司的兒子西番雅，和眾祭司，說：耶和華已經立了你西番雅為祭司，代替耶何耶大，作耶和華殿中的總管，你就應把所有妄自說預言的人，都帶上腳鐐枷鎖。現在，亞拿突人耶利米向你們說預言，你為甚麼不斥責他呢？因為他寄信給我們在巴比倫的人說：被擄的時期必會長久，所以你們要建造房屋，定居下來，也要栽植園子，吃園中的果子。’”（西番雅祭司卻把這封信念給耶利米先知聽。）耶和華的話又臨到耶利米，說：“你要寄信給所有被擄的人，說：‘論到尼希蘭人示瑪雅，耶和華這樣說：因為示瑪雅向你們說預言，我並沒有差遣他，他竟使你們信靠謊言。所以耶和華這樣說：看哪！我必懲罰尼希蘭人示瑪雅和他的後代；他必不會有子孫住在這人民中間，也必不能看見我要為我的子民所作的美事，因為他說了悖逆耶和華的話。’”這是耶和華的宣告。

有一個人名叫西門，從前在城裡行過邪術，使撒瑪利亞的居民驚奇，他又自命不凡，

基拿拿的兒子西底家近前來，打米該雅的臉頰說：“耶和華的靈怎樣離開了我，去與你說話呢？”

銅匠亞歷山大作了許多惡事陷害我，主必按著他所行的報應他。你也要提防他，因為他極力抵擋我們的話。

那時，省長看見了所發生的事，就信了，因為他驚奇主的教訓。

在約帕有一個女門徒，名叫戴比莎，希臘話叫多加；她為人樂善好施。

當年，就是猶大王西底家開始執政的第四年五月，基遍人押朔的兒子哈拿尼雅先知，在耶和華殿中，當著祭司和眾民的面前對我說：

他先找到自己的哥哥西門，告訴他：“我們遇見彌賽亞了！”（“彌賽亞”的意思就是“基督”。）

於是哈拿尼雅先知把耶利米先知頸項上的軛取下來，折斷了。哈拿尼雅又當著眾民面前說：“耶和華這樣說：‘兩年之內，我必這樣從列國的頸項上，折斷巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒的軛。’”於是耶利米先知就走了。
