She was full of good works and acts of charity.In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him,“ Please come to us without delay.”So Peter rose and went with them. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

And after saying this he said to him,“ Follow me.”Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said,“ Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?”When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus,“ Lord, what about this man?”Jesus said to him,“ If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but,“ If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?”This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip,“ Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.Philip answered him,“ Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.”

But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said,“ Tell these things to James and to the brothers.” Then he departed and went to another place.

After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him,“ Follow me.”And leaving everything, he rose and followed him.And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them.

And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,

But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them:“ Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.

Simon Peter, Thomas( called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together.

After they finished speaking, James replied,“ Brothers, listen to me.

One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side,so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking.So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him,“ Lord, who is it?”

And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them,“ Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith.Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.”

The servant girl at the door said to Peter,“ You also are not one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said,“ I am not.”

But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord’s brother.

And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw.Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

So Thomas, called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples,“ Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon( who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.And he said to them,“ Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”Immediately they left their nets and followed him.And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles:Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew,and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot,and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms.And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said,“ Look at us.”And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them.But Peter said,“ I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong.And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.And all the people saw him walking and praising God,and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,“ Peace be with you.”Then he said to Thomas,“ Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”Thomas answered him,“ My Lord and my God!”Jesus said to him,“ Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

But Peter and John answered them,“ Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge,

The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a tranceand saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth.In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air.And there came a voice to him:“ Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”But Peter said,“ By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”And the voice came to him again a second time,“ What God has made clean, do not call common.”This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as to what the vision that he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood at the gateand called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there.And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him,“ Behold, three men are looking for you.Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them.”And Peter went down to the men and said,“ I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?”And they said,“ Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.”So he invited them in to be his guests. The next day he rose and went away with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.And on the following day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.But Peter lifted him up, saying,“ Stand up; I too am a man.”And as he talked with him, he went in and found many persons gathered.And he said to them,“ You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you sent for me.”And Cornelius said,“ Four days ago, about this hour, I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothingand said,‘ Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.’So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”

Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him,“ You also are not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said,“ I am not.”One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked,“ Did I not see you in the garden with him?”Peter again denied it, and at once a rooster crowed.

He killed James the brother of John with the sword,and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread.

Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John,who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit,for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,saying,“ Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”But Peter said to him,“ May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.”And Simon answered,“ Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him,“ Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.

And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled.

One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.He first found his own brother Simon and said to him,“ We have found the Messiah”( which means Christ).He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said,“ You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas”( which means Peter).The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him,“ Follow me.”Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.Philip found Nathanael and said to him,“ We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”Nathanael said to him,“ Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him,“ Come and see.”
