May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day! You know very well in how many ways he helped me in Ephesus.

何則、天主不負有心人、對於爾等之工作、爾等之敬愛聖名、供養聖徒、至今未懈、天主必不致忘懷也。

予之造次顛沛、備嘗艱辛、亦為此福音而已。然予不以為恥也。無他、予知所仰望者之為誰氏之子、且深信彼之所寄於予者、彼必能保其完整、以待彼日之臨也。

曩者吾適馬其頓、而留汝於伊法所者、欲汝勸告若干同人勿傳異端、

天下之人。誰無罪尤。主若深究。孰能無憂。惟主寬仁。不絕自新。悠悠人世。可不尊親。

其實關於周濟聖徒之事、應無須吾之喋喋也。

當亞波羅在格林多時、葆樂經高原而至依法所、遇數徒、問之曰：

至是王將謂右者曰：「爾等見寵於吾父者、自創世以來為爾所備之國、胥來承嗣。蓋曩者我饑、爾則食之、我渴、爾則飲之、我作客、爾則納之、我裸、爾則衣之、我疾、爾則視之、我在獄、爾則來探之也。」善者將曰「主乎、吾何曾見爾飢而食之、渴而飲之？又何曾見爾作客而納之、裸而衣之？更何曾見爾有疾、在獄、而探視之耶？」王將謂之曰：「吾實語爾、爾所施於我兄弟中之至微者、即施之於我身也。」

然富於慈悲之天主、按其愛人之大德、

導民於正、福音是布；蕩污滌穢、宿罪攸除。

是即歷來先知所潛心探索而預言者、爾等則親沾其澤矣。

奧乃西弗則屢次予我以寬慰、不以予之縲絏為恥、願主矜恤其闔家大小是祝。

舉世莫非罪人、固未有能懷天主之明德者也。故人之稱義、惟憑耶穌基督之救贖；此實天主之慈恩、不勞而獲者也。

弟吉各予已遣之前往伊法所。

惟在復活節前、擬暫留伊法所、

用示矜憐、於我列祖；以懷聖約、以踐誓許。

尚有希祿家臣苦撒之妻若翰納、及蘇三納等多婦；諸婦皆以私蓄供耶穌及其徒者也。

昔天主曾告摩西曰：『吾欲寵者寵之、吾欲憐者憐之。』此固非人意與人力、所得而左右、惟在慈惠天主之矜恤而已。經中又載告諭法老之言曰：『吾使爾崛興、用顯吾能於爾身、用彰吾名於普世。』蓋矜恤人者惟天主、使人冥頑、亦惟天主而已。爾將謂予曰：既如此、則天主尚何復責人？夫孰能違其意乎？嗟爾蒼生、爾何人斯、乃敢質問天主！被製之物、豈能反詰製之者曰：汝何為而造我如此耶？抑陶人於泥無自由處置之權、而不能於同一撮土中、製成貴賤不同之器耶？若天主欲宣其威而彰其德、對於可惡可毀之器、已予百般容忍、而對於吾人預定為榮貴之器、沛加恩澤、以揚其無窮之榮、

嗚呼、於主耶穌臨格時、孰為吾之希望、吾之欣慰、吾之榮冕乎？非爾也耶？

爾其寓書於依弗所教會之守護天神曰：彼右手握有七星，而徘徊於七金燈之間者有所曉論於爾：
