That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.

That’s why I’m suffering the way I am. But this gives me no reason to be ashamed. That’s because I know who I have believed in. I am sure he is able to take care of what I have given him. I can trust him with it until the day he returns as judge.

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, (niv)

Seizing Paul, they dragged him from the temple, and immediately the gates were shut.While they were trying to kill him, news reached the commander of the Roman troops that the whole city of Jerusalem was in an uproar. But the Jewish leaders incited the God- fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. (niv)

There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them.But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, (niv)

He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. (niv)

And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” (niv)

Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. (niv)

Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. (niv)

Then Paul answered,“ Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” (niv)

Many will say to me on that day,‘ Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ (niv)

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. (niv)

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you,that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly.In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power.Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, (niv)

I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” (niv)

Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly:“ We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. (niv)

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. (niv)

I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town. (niv)

I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. (niv)
