One day David asked,“ Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive— anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

大衛問說：「掃羅家還有剩下的人沒有？我要因約拿單的緣故向他施恩。」

大衛說：「掃羅家還有剩下的人沒有？我要因約拿單的緣故向他施恩。」

大衛說：「掃羅家還有剩下的人沒有？我要因約拿單的緣故向他施恩。」

大衛問：「掃羅一家還有什麼人嗎？我要因為和約拿單的情義而恩待他。」

大衛問：“掃羅家還有剩下的人沒有？我要因約拿單的緣故，以慈愛待他。”

大衛問說：『掃羅家還有剩下的人沒有？我要因約拿單的緣故向他表示厚愛。』

大衛問：「掃羅家還有誰剩下嗎？我要因約拿單的緣故，以恩慈對待他。」

大衛曰、掃羅家尚有遺存者乎、我緣約拿單故、將施仁慈於彼、

大闢曰、掃羅裔尚有遺乎、緣約拿單故、我欲施恩於彼。

大衛問曰、掃羅家尚有遺存者乎、我欲緣約拿單故、施恩於彼、

David asked,“ Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

David asked,“ Is anyone left from the royal house of Saul? If there is, I want to be kind to him because of Jonathan.”

And David said,“ Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

David asked,“ Is there anyone remaining from the family of Saul I can show kindness to for Jonathan’s sake?”

Then David said,“ Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul, so that I could show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

Now David said,“ Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

David asked,“ Is there anyone remaining from Saul’s family I can show kindness to because of Jonathan?”

And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

Then David asked,“ Is anyone still left from the family of Saul, so that I may extend kindness to him for the sake of Jonathan?”

David said,“ Is there yet any who is left of Saul’s house, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

At last Jonathan said to David,“ Go in peace, for we have sworn loyalty to each other in the Lord’s name. The Lord is the witness of a bond between us and our children forever.” Then David left, and Jonathan returned to the town.

“ And the King will say,‘ I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

And may you treat me with the faithful love of the Lord as long as I live. But if I die,treat my family with this faithful love, even when the Lord destroys all your enemies from the face of the earth.”So Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, saying,“ May the Lord destroy all your enemies!”And Jonathan made David reaffirm his vow of friendship again, for Jonathan loved David as he loved himself.

If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I tell you the truth, that person will surely be rewarded.

When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her,“ Dear woman, here is your son.”And he said to this disciple,“ Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.

Jonathan went to find David and encouraged him to stay strong in his faith in God.“ Don’t be afraid,” Jonathan reassured him.“ My father will never find you! You are going to be the king of Israel, and I will be next to you, as my father, Saul, is well aware.”So the two of them renewed their solemn pact before the Lord. Then Jonathan returned home, while David stayed at Horesh.

But because of our love, I prefer simply to ask you. Consider this as a request from me— Paul, an old man and now also a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus.I appeal to you to show kindness to my child, Onesimus. I became his father in the faith while here in prison.Onesimus hasn’t been of much use to you in the past, but now he is very useful to both of us.I am sending him back to you, and with him comes my own heart.

How I weep for you, my brother Jonathan! Oh, how much I loved you! And your love for me was deep, deeper than the love of women!

“ Be kind to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead. Make them permanent guests at your table, for they took care of me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”

Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.

Never abandon a friend— either yours or your father’s. When disaster strikes, you won’t have to ask your brother for assistance. It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away.

After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David.From that day on Saul kept David with him and wouldn’t let him return home.And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself.Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt.
