The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David,“ You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off.” They thought,“ David cannot get in here.”

David then led his men to Jerusalem to fight against the Jebusites, the original inhabitants of the land who were living there. The Jebusites taunted David, saying,“ You’ll never get in here! Even the blind and lame could keep you out!” For the Jebusites thought they were safe.

便雅憫人沒有趕走住在耶路撒冷的耶布斯人，所以耶布斯人與便雅憫人一同住在耶路撒冷，直到今日。

洗拉、以利弗、耶布斯（耶布斯就是耶路撒冷）、基比亞、基列，共十四座城，還有屬於這些城的村莊。這就是便雅憫人按著家族所得的產業。

撒冷王麥基洗德也帶著餅和酒出來；他是至高神的祭司。

即使你們擊敗了那攻打你們的迦勒底全軍，他們中間只剩下一些受重傷的人，他們也必各從自己的帳棚裡起來，放火燒毀這城。’”

那人不願再住一夜，就帶著自己的妾和兩頭備好了的驢，起來走了，來到耶布斯對面；耶布斯就是耶路撒冷。他們走近耶布斯的時候，日頭快要落了；僕人對主人說：“來，讓我們轉到這耶布斯人的城去，好在那裡住宿。”主人對他說：“我們不可轉到這座不是以色列人居住的外族人的城裡去，我們過到基比亞去吧。”

因此，耶路撒冷王亞多尼．洗德派人到希伯崙王何咸、耶末王毗蘭、拉吉王雅非亞和伊磯倫王底璧那裡去，對他們說：

這麥基洗德就是撒冷王，又是至高神的祭司。亞伯拉罕殺敗眾王回來的時候，麥基洗德迎接他，並且給他祝福。

大衛和以色列眾人來到耶路撒冷，耶路撒冷就是耶布斯。那時，當地的居民耶布斯人住在那裡。耶布斯的居民對大衛說：“你不能進這裡來。”可是大衛佔領了錫安的堡壘，錫安就是大衛城。大衛說：“誰首先攻打耶布斯人，誰就必作首領和元帥。”洗魯雅的兒子約押首先上去，就作了首領。大衛住在堡壘中，因此人把那堡壘稱為大衛城。大衛又重建四周的城牆，從米羅起，以至城的周圍；那城其餘的部分由約押修建。大衛日漸強盛，因為萬軍之耶和華與他同在。
