耶西就派人去把大卫带回来。他面色红润，眼目清秀，外貌英俊。耶和华说：“就是这一个，你起来膏立他吧！”撒母耳就拿起盛油的角，在他的兄长中膏立他。从那天起，耶和华的灵就大大感动大卫。后来撒母耳动身往拉玛去了。

耶和华对撒母耳说：“你为扫罗悲哀要到几时呢？我已经弃绝他作以色列的王了。你把膏油盛满了角，然后去吧！我要差派你到伯利恒人耶西那里去，因为我在他的众子中，已经预定了一个为我作王。”

虽然这样，官长当中也有许多人信了耶稣。但是因为法利赛人的缘故，他们不敢公开承认，免得被赶出会堂；因为他们爱来自人的荣耀，过于爱来自神的荣耀。

那时，你在异象中告诉你的圣民说：“我帮助了一位勇士，我从民中兴起了一位青年（“我从民中兴起了一位青年”或译：“我兴起那从民中所拣选的”）。我找到我的仆人大卫，用我的圣膏油膏他。我的手必坚立他，我的膀臂必坚固他。仇敌必不能欺骗他，凶恶的人必不能压迫他。我要在他的面前击碎他的敌人，击杀那些恨他的人。

但现在你的王位必不长久，耶和华已经为自己找到一个合他心意的人，立他作自己子民的领袖，因为你没有谨守耶和华所吩咐你的。”
