永恆主就後悔造了人在地上，心中憂傷。

因為永恆主要巡行、來擊死埃及人；他看見有血在門楣上和兩邊的門柱上，永恆主就會把那門越過去，不容那滅命者進你們的房屋來擊死你們。

在你所住的房屋上、這血要給你們做記號；我一見這血。就把你們越過去；我擊打埃及地的時候，就不至於有疫病臨到你們身上來滅你們。

永恆主啊，要到幾時呢？回心轉意，憐恤你僕人吧！

因為永恆主必為他人民行裁判，他必憐恤他的僕人。

這樣的人受了多數人的責罰、也足夠了；

願他們所行的路又暗又滑，有永恆主的使者在追趕他們。

和耶布斯人、亞摩利人、革迦撒人、

自己卻進曠野、走了一天的路程，來到一棵羅騰樹下，就坐在那裏為自己求死，說：『罷了！永恆主啊，現在取我的性命吧！因為我並不比我列祖強。』

至於住耶路撒冷的耶布斯人、猶大人卻不能把他們趕出；耶布斯人就和猶大人同住在耶路撒冷、直到今日。

因為我不永遠爭辯，也不長久震怒；因為人的生氣是由我而出，人的氣息是我造的。

那一天大衛就說：『誰攻擊耶布斯人、到達水溝去擊打大衛心所恨惡的瘸子瞎子，誰就可以得到重賞。』因此有命令說：瞎眼的瘸腿的不得進聖殿。

你們的上帝說：要安慰，要安慰我的人民哦。要和耶路撒冷談心，要向她宣告：她勞役的日期已滿，她對罪罰的苦行已蒙悅納，她為了自己的一切罪、已從永恆主手中加倍地受罰了。

上帝差遣了使者到耶路撒冷去殺滅城裏的人；正在殺滅的時候，永恆主看見，對這災就後悔，便對行殺滅的天使說：『夠了；住手吧！』那時永恆主的使者在耶布斯人阿珥楠的禾場附近站着。大衛舉目，看見了永恆主的使者在空中站着，手裏有拔出來的刀，在耶路撒冷上空伸着。大衛和長老們都披上麻布，臉伏於地。

他第三次來，對他們說：『今後你們還睡覺麼？安歇麼？夠了！鐘點到了！看哪，人子被送交在罪人手裏了！

這雷轟和冰雹已經夠了：懇求永恆主吧！我就讓你們走，不再叫你們住在這裏。』

我必除去他們口中帶血的肉，和他們牙齒間可憎的禁物；他們必作為餘剩之民歸於我們的上帝；必像個族系在猶大中；以革倫人必像耶布斯人。

永恆主對這事改變了心意；主永恆主就說：『這事不發生啦。』

我甚麼時候論到一邦或一國說，要拔除，要拆毁，要毁滅，我所論到的那一邦若轉回離開他們的壞事，那我就後悔我想要降與他們的災禍了。我甚麼時候論到一邦或一國說，要建立，要栽植，他們若行我所看為壞的事，不聽我的聲音，那麼我就後悔我所說要使他們得益處的福了。

那一天迦得來見大衛，對他說：『你上去，在耶布斯人亞勞拿的禾場上為永恆主立座祭壇。』

永恆主啊，我聽見你的聲望，永恆主啊，我看見了你的作為。在這些年頭使它活現吧！在這些年頭播知出來吧！在激怒中以憐憫為念哦！

於是永恆主就改變心意不降災禍，就是他說、要向他人民施行的。
