基列的雅比居民听见非利士人向扫罗所行的事，他们所有的勇士就起身，走了一夜，把扫罗和他儿子的尸身从伯‧珊城墙上取下来，送到雅比，在那里用火烧了，把骸骨葬在雅比的柳树下，并且禁食七日。

他在希伯仑作犹大王七年六个月，在耶路撒冷作以色列和犹大王三十三年。

于是以色列的众长老都来到希伯仑见王。大卫在希伯仑，在耶和华面前与他们立约，他们就膏大卫作以色列的王。

撒母耳就用角里的膏油，在他的兄长中膏了他。从这日起，耶和华的灵就大大感动大卫。撒母耳起身回拉玛去了。

现在，你们的主扫罗死了，犹大家也已经膏我作他们的王，你们的手要坚强，要作英勇的人。”

非利士人听见大卫受膏作以色列王，非利士众人就上来寻索大卫。大卫听见了，就下到堡垒去。

犹大众人回答以色列人说：“因为王与我们是亲属，你们为何因这事发怒呢？我们靠王吃了什么呢？王真正给了我们什么赏赐呢？”

大卫在希伯仑作犹大家的王，共七年六个月。

于是以色列的众长老都来到希伯仑见王。大卫在希伯仑，在耶和华面前与他们立约，他们就膏大卫作以色列的王，正如耶和华藉撒母耳所说的话。

犹大啊，你的兄弟必赞美你，你的手必掐住仇敌的颈项，你父亲的儿子要向你下拜。犹大是只小狮子；我儿啊，你捕获了猎物就上去。他蹲伏，他躺卧，如公狮，又如母狮，谁敢惹他呢？权杖必不离犹大，统治者的杖必不离他两脚之间，直等细罗来到，万民都要归顺他。

大卫王派人到撒督和亚比亚他二位祭司那里，说：“你们当向犹大长老说：‘以色列众人已经有话到了王那里，你们为什么最后才请王回宫呢？
