Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah. When David was told that it was the men from Jabesh Gilead who had buried Saul,

基列雅比的居民聽見掃羅的事、知道非利士人向掃羅所行的，他們中間所有的壯丁就起身，走了一夜，將掃羅的屍身和他兒子的屍身從伯珊城牆上取下來，送到雅比，在那裏焚燒。又將他們的骸骨埋葬在雅比的垂絲柳樹下；並且禁食七天。

在希伯崙作王管理猶大七年零六個月；在耶路撒冷作王管理全以色列和猶大三十三年。

於是以色列眾長老都到希伯崙來見大衛王；大衛王在希伯崙永恆主面前和他們立約，他們就膏立了大衛做王來管理以色列。

撒母耳就拿了油角，在他哥哥們中間膏了他；從那一天起、永恆主的靈就大大感動大衛。於是撒母耳起身、往拉瑪去了。

現在你們的主上掃羅已經死了，況且猶大家所膏立為王來管理他們的、就是我，所以你們的手要剛強，你們要做英勇的人。』

非利士人聽見人膏立了大衛做王來管理以色列，非利士眾人就上來尋索大衛；大衛聽見了，就下營寨去。

猶大眾人回答以色列人說：『因為王是我們的近親；你們為甚麼因這事而發怒呢？我們喫了王的甚麼沒有？我們收到甚麼禮份沒有？』

大衛在希伯崙作王管理猶大家、其年數共有七年零六個月。

於是以色列眾長老都來到希伯崙見大衛王；大衛在希伯崙永恆主面前和他們立約，他們就膏立了大衛為王來管理以色列，正如永恆主的話、由撒母耳經手所說的。

猶大啊，你弟兄們必稱讚你；你的手必掐住你仇敵的脖子；你父親的兒子們必向你下拜。猶大是個小獅子；「我兒啊，你抓了所抓到的便上山穴去；』他屈身伏着像公獅、像母獅，誰敢惹他呢？權柄之杖必不離開猶大，指揮之棍必不離開他兩腿之間，直到屬他的那位來到，萬族之民都歸順他。

大衛王打發人去見祭司撒督和亞比亞他、說：『你們要對猶大的長老們說：「以色列眾人已經有話到王那裏、請王回宮，你們為甚麼在請王回宮的事情上落在他們後頭呢？
