基列-雅比的居民听说了非利士人对扫罗所做的事，所有的勇士就动身，走了一整夜，把扫罗和他三个儿子的尸体从伯珊的城墙上取下来，带回雅比，在那里火化了。然后取了他们的骸骨，埋葬在雅比的那棵柽柳树下，并且禁食七天。

于是撒母耳拿起装膏油的犄角，在他兄弟们当中膏抹了他。从那天以后，耶和华的灵就大大临到大卫。撒母耳起身回拉玛去了。

犹大啊，你的兄弟们必称赞你，你的手必压住仇敌的颈项，你父亲的众子必向你下拜。犹大是个小狮子；我儿啊，你猎食而归，屈身蹲伏，躺如公狮，卧如母狮，谁敢惊动你？权杖必不离开犹大，王杖必不离他两脚之间，直到“细罗”来到，万民都要归顺他。
