這事以後，大衛攻打非利士人，制伏了他們。大衛從非利士人手中取得了京城的控制權。他又擊敗摩押人，使他們躺在地上，用繩子量他們，把量兩繩的殺死，讓量一繩的存活。這樣，摩押人就臣服大衛，給他進貢。瑣巴王利合的兒子哈大底謝，往幼發拉底河去要奪回他統治這河的勢力的時候，大衛就攻打他。大衛從他那裡擄獲了戰車一千輛，騎兵七千（按照《馬索拉文本》，“騎兵七千”作“騎兵一千七百”，現按《七十士譯本》翻譯；參《死海古卷》和代上18:4），步兵二萬，大衛把所有戰車的馬的蹄筋都砍斷。只留下一百輛戰車的馬。（“大衛把所有戰車的馬的蹄筋都砍斷，只留下一百輛戰車的馬”或譯：“大衛毀壞了所有戰車，只留下一百輛戰車”）大馬士革的亞蘭人來協助瑣巴王哈大底謝，大衛就擊殺了亞蘭人二萬二千。於是大衛在大馬士革的亞蘭地駐軍。這樣亞蘭人就臣服大衛，給他進貢。大衛無論到甚麼地方去，耶和華都使他得勝。大衛奪取了哈大底謝臣僕所拿的金盾牌，帶回耶路撒冷。大衛王又從哈大底謝的兩座城比他和比羅他奪取了大量的銅。哈馬王陀以聽見大衛打敗了哈大底謝的全軍，就差派他的兒子約蘭去見大衛王，向他問安，祝賀他，因為大衛和哈大底謝爭戰，竟擊敗了他。原來陀以常常與哈大底謝爭戰。約蘭手裡還帶著一些銀器、金器和銅器。大衛王也把這些器皿，連同他從他征服的各國得來的金銀都一起分別為聖，獻給耶和華。就是從以東、摩押、亞捫人、非利士人、亞瑪力人所得來的，以及從瑣巴王利合的兒子哈大底謝獲得的戰利品。大衛在鹽谷擊殺了一萬八千以東人回來以後，就大有名聲。他又在以東設立防軍；他在以東各地都設立防軍，所有以東人就都臣服大衛。大衛無論到甚麼地方去，耶和華都使他得勝。

掃羅說：“你們要對大衛這樣說：‘王不要甚麼聘禮，只要一百個非利士人的包皮，好在王的仇敵身上報仇。’”掃羅企圖使大衛死在非利士人的手裡。

掃羅無論差派大衛到哪裡去，他都去，並且凡事亨通。於是掃羅立他作軍兵的將領。所有的人民和掃羅的臣僕都非常高興。大衛擊殺了那非利士人，與眾人一同回來的時候，婦女們從以色列各城裡出來，唱歌、跳舞、打鼓、歡呼、擊磬迎接掃羅王。婦女們跳舞、歌唱，說：“掃羅殺死千千！大衛殺死萬萬！”

那人說：“你所賜給我、和我在一起的那女人，她把樹上的果子給我，我就吃了。”耶和華神對女人說：“你作了甚麼事呢？”女人說：“那蛇欺哄我，我就吃了。”

如果你們心中存著刻薄的嫉妒和自私，就不可誇口，也不可說謊抵擋真理。這種智慧不是從天上來的，而是屬地的、屬血氣的和屬鬼魔的。因為凡有嫉妒和自私的地方，就必有擾亂和各樣的壞事。

他冒著生命的危險擊殺了那非利士人，耶和華為以色列人施行了大拯救，那時你看見了，也很歡喜。現在你為甚麼要犯罪，無緣無故殺死大衛，流無辜人的血呢？”

我對他們說：‘凡是有金子的，都可以摘下來’，他們就給了我；我把它丟在火裡，這牛犢就出來了。”

這樣，大衛用機弦和一塊石子勝過了那非利士人。大衛擊殺了那非利士人，但他手中沒有刀。

於是大衛來到巴力‧毗拉心，在那裡擊敗了非利士人，說：“耶和華在我面前沖破我的敵人，好像洪水沖破堤岸一般。”因此他給那地方起名叫巴力‧毗拉心。
