David sent out his troops, a third under the command of Joab, a third under Joab’s brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, and a third under Ittai the Gittite. The king told the troops,“ I myself will surely march out with you.”

Then David sent out his troops in military groups. One group was under the command of Joab. Another was under Joab’s brother Abishai, the son of Zeruiah. The last was under Ittai, the Gittite. The king told the troops,“ You can be sure that I myself will march out with you.”

And David sent out the army, one third under the command of Joab, one third under the command of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and one third under the command of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the men,“ I myself will also go out with you.”

And David sent forth the people, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.

王对迦特人以太说：“你是外邦人，从你本地逃来的，为什么与我们同去呢？你回去留在新王那里吧！你昨天才到，我今日怎好叫你与我们一同流亡，而我却要到处飘流呢？回去吧，你带你的弟兄回去吧！愿主用慈爱信实待你。”以太回答王说：“我指着永生的耶和华起誓，又敢在王面前起誓：无论生死，王在哪里，你的仆人也必在哪里。”大卫对以太说：“去，过去吧！”于是迦特人以太带着所有跟随他的人和孩子过去了。

第二日，扫罗把百姓分为三队，在清晨换岗哨的时候入侵亚扪人的军营，击杀他们直到中午的时候。逃脱的人都分散了，甚至没有两个人同在一起。

耶和华是我的亮光，是我的拯救，我还怕谁呢？耶和华是我生命的保障，我还惧谁呢？那作恶的就是我的仇敌，前来吃我肉的时候就绊跌仆倒。虽有军队安营攻击我，我的心也不害怕；虽然兴起战争攻击我，我仍旧安稳。

耶和华在我这边，我必不惧怕，人能把我怎么样呢？在那帮助我的人中，有耶和华帮助我，所以我要看见那些恨我的人遭报。投靠耶和华，强似倚赖人；

他就带领百姓，把他们分成三队，埋伏在田间窥探。看哪，示剑居民从城里出来，他就起来击杀他们。

虽有成万的百姓周围攻击我，我也不惧怕。

基甸和跟随他的一百人，在半夜之初换岗哨的时候来到营旁。他们就吹角，打破手中的瓶；

大卫听见了，就派约押和所有勇猛的军队出去。亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵；琐巴与利合的亚兰人、陀伯人，以及玛迦人另外在郊野摆阵。约押看见战阵对着他前后摆列，就把从以色列所有精兵中挑选出来的，摆阵迎战亚兰人。他把其余的兵交在他兄弟亚比筛手里，亚比筛就摆阵迎战亚扪人。

依我之计，要把如同海边的沙那样多的以色列众人，从但直到别是巴，聚集到你这里来，由你亲自率领他们出战。
