May the Lord show you kindness and faithfulness.”But in response, Ittai vowed to the king,“ As the Lord lives and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king is, whether it means life or death, your servant will be there!”“ March on,” David replied to Ittai. So Ittai the Gittite marched past with all his men and the children who were with him.

The next day Saul organized the troops into three divisions. During the morning watch, they invaded the Ammonite camp and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. There were survivors, but they were so scattered that no two of them were left together.

The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom should I fear? Instead, I advise that all Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba— as numerous as the sand by the sea— be gathered to you and that you personally go into battle.
