Ahithophel said to Absalom,“ I would choose twelve thousand men and set out tonight in pursuit of David.

while the wicked slander me and tell lies about me.They surround me with hateful words and fight against me for no reason.I love them, but they try to destroy me with accusations even as I am praying for them!

Their feet run to do evil, and they rush to commit murder. They think only about sinning. Misery and destruction always follow them.They don’t know where to find peace or what it means to be just and good. They have mapped out crooked roads, and no one who follows them knows a moment’s peace.

But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy mountain. InterludeI lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me.

For evil people can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest until they’ve caused someone to stumble.

They rush to commit evil deeds. They hurry to commit murder.
